According to the author of the series, Annie's laught was because of the relief she felt, realizing that she no longer had to hide the secret, and the "bad things" that she did made her hate herself and the world. She also laughed at the irony of her situation. She spared Armin because of her personal feelings, but Armin was the reason she got caught. Annie was almost certain that Armin was suspected of her, but she went with him anyway because she wanted to be a good person to him one last time, and she wanted to trust the possibility that Armin wouldn't get her caught.

This reaction was loads of fun, the discussion especially! I like that you 2 are so invested and seem to be enjoying the show. There's loads more to come and I'm looking forward to your reactions.
I think the part about confined spaces and her being scared is because of the tests eren did with hange in previous episodes where it was said that if eren were to transform in the well which is a confined space he wouldn't be able to move once in his titan form.
@WolforNuva2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the problem back then was that was before they knew he needed a specific goal in mind to transform. Plus... Very light/minor spoilers. Later in the series this is answered more clearly; one shifter is able to become a titan in a basement and that simply destroys the building above them, but also 2 shifters get shoved in a similar situation as the well and note that while they _could_ transform that would crush the other and there still wouldn't be space to move.

Actually, most of what Eren said was normal: "Are you scared of confined spaces or something" - trying to tease Annie, in a desperate attempt to get her to follow them underground (transformation is a lot harder in a confined space, as you correctly guessed) "Any damsel who can flip a grown man upside down isn't weak at all" - she did that to both him and Reiner during training.

14:59 Clarification: they imply multiple times earlier in the series (but don't just come out and SAY it directly) that transforming while in a confined space helps to restrain and control a transformed titan. 1. Eren is kept in a jail UNDER the courthouse. 2. While they were cleaning the base, Eren asks where he'll be sleeping and Levi says obviously in the basement; him being kept in basements is a condition of his release under their care since it's possible he could transform while unconscious and hurt somebody. 3. In episode "Bite", the experiment for Eren's transformation was conducted in a well where Eren is several feet underground.

In 1x17, Armin perfectly played Annie with the “the suicidal maniac is dead”. Suicidal maniac being Eren’s nickname only known among the 104th cadet corps. The Narrator is actually Armin. Alot of fans used to deny that and thought it's just the voice actor but that's false. In the 3rd OVA episode Armin speaks from his own POV so it's a proof he's the narrator. And the second proof is season 2. He also spoke from his own POV. So it's just that fans didn't pay attention. And as you both said;"it seems that we're seeing the story from Armin's lense" so I guess those fans don't have any proof that he's not the narrator.

I think the reason Eren was about to say "Annie" before his head got kicked off, was because she took her Muay Thai fighting stance to prepare to her kick, which he recognized from them training. Also, there's a bit of a translation issue between episodes & hosters. Eren has been called suicidal maniac / bastard here before they enter the tunnel by Annie, which is also what Eren was called during training before they joined the scouts (I believe by Jean during the dining part when he still wanted to join the police), but also what Armin called him when he was facing the female titan as a means to distract her, thinking she had killed him by accident. Annie crying against the tree and her face when she fell down the wall in the next one (edit: well, one after) are very much the two scenes that stuck most with me from season 1. I also think when she as titan appeared initially and you thought she was some "sun charging" when she was standing in the midst of all the people she killed, she actually was feeling bad for what she did in that moment. She always acts tough, but she clearly cares more than she lets on and even saved Connie and Jean when she didn't had to, and was clearly very distraught after they were counting the dead after sealing the hole with Eren, which goes back to her taking the gear from Marco. She also spared Armin after identifying him in the field, even though she could've easily smashed him in that moment, as well as Mikasa in the next one when she was thrown to the ground by the debris. Knowing the full extend behind her character now makes it all even more tragic and sad. :( She's definitely one of my favorite characters of the show. Maybe also because her wearing a mask all the time is something I can kinda relate to. Edit: Oh and also in the last episode when she crashed into the church and looked at the bodies, it's likely why she went to an open place to fight Eren - less casualties.

hey guys, I'm loving to hear the theories ❤️ about that part where Eren's head was sliced, Annie just did a "karate chop", maybe with her hand crystallized, maybe not. But that slice effect was just a visual style, the sword is too short to slice an entire titan head, or the tree (she also sliced a tree on that scene). Keep in mind that the anime tries to be realistic and accurate (as long as an anime with titans can be LOL) so you won't be seeing a samurai slash slicing thru space-time without barely moving his katana out of the sheathe like in other kinds of anime xD

You've probably already been told which OVAs to watch but just to be clear the viewing order for now is as follows: S1 No Regrets OVA (A Sudden Visitor OVA) (Distress) S2 Ep1 Ilse's Notebook OVA Rest of S2 (Lost Girls OVA 1 & 2) S3 Part 1 (Lost Girls OVA 3) S3 Part 2 S4 Part 1 S4 Part 2 S4 Part 3, when it's out Anything in brackets is optional, though I'd recommend A Sudden Visitor if you like Jean, and Lost Girls Parts 1 & 2 if you like Annie, Part 3 if you like Mikasa (who doesn't lol). If you wanna see Marco again (rip), you can watch Distress too. Also, it's not strictly necessary to watch S2 Ep1 before Ilse's Notebook, but personally I'd recommend it, but I can't really say why without spoiling. And now for a pun: What's the name of the ship shown in this episode? The TITANic. (I'm sorry)

People tend to have differing opinions about the laughter. I reckon it's trying to show that Annie is relieved that she doesn't have to keep this massive secret anymore, she's bottled it up for like 5 years at this point so it must feel amazing to just stop having to worry about hiding anymore. So she just laughs hysterically.

So Eren is actually referring to the fight they had when they were training. Annie flipped both him and reiner. I also dont think Eren is being savage or passive agressive...He's actually gullible. that will be covered in the next episode. 15:05 yes the space is too confined

Titans use sunlight as energy source, that is why titan shifters are affraid of dark places, it will prevent them from transforming or even make them immobile.

The Female Titan cutting the Shredded titans head in half is just a badass roundhouse kick from her. Just shows the level of power they are working with. Also, don't forget to watch the post credit scene after the season finale!

The part about the military police talking to Marlo and not giving him any specifics on what he was supposed to do. It wasn’t because they were trying to teach them a lesson about respecting superiors. It was about the fact that the life of the military police is a cushy lifestyle, and when they opened the door, you could see them playing cards. He didn’t give him any instructions because he’s lazy and was just passing the buck to a newbie so he could continue playing cards. This is why all the top grads go to the military police. Cushy lifestyle and you don’t have to fight titans and die. Reference Eren’s conversation with Annie during combat training.
