I think that scene with Mikasa asking Eren if he has feelings for Annie only highlights Mikasa's jealousy and how naive Eren is, not necessarily Eren having a crush on Annie. Also, Carlie, you're right!!! The reason the cat didn't move was because animals know titans are no harm to animals instinctively! it's a crazy small detail that not everyone notices or understands when they see the calm cat.

I don't think that's the reason the cat didn't move. A disaster was taking placing and the female titan was wrecking havoc. People running, screaming and dying all around, impact and vibrations from Annie's movement and destruction of buildings should be reasons enough to scare the cat and make it move.

Well, the cat was just shown because everytime there's a cruel or horrifying scene is showed in AOT, they show a beautiful scene after that, like flowers or beautiful landscape. It shows the world is cruel but also beautiful.

I think Eren hesitated because he knew who was behing the Female titan and that he's slowly understanding that his enemies are not only titans. That's why he felt reluctant at first but then he remembered what she did AND his mom being eaten. You gotta keep in mind that remembering his mom's death is what drives him to go forward no matter what.

yes, Eren up to this point strongly believed it was always humans vs titans and that everyone he trained with had the same goal and would stick together to overcome this ultimate enemy but when he realized there are people who would backstab humanity in this effort he had a hard time accepting it given how much was taken from humanity and that there is no room for betrayal when fighting such an unbeatable enemy

No, Eren already know at this point there the Colosal, Armored, and Female are human. He is hesitating because SHE IS Annie, one of his comrades and one from whom he has a special respect, she didn't only teached him some moves, she opened his eyes with the matter of the top 10 cadets giving the option to the military police didn't make sense.

I think Eren just respected Annie a lot since she beat him and reiner in training, then gave that speech about getting better at fighting titans just to get further away from them, she kinda gave him a realisation and earned his respect back in season 1 and i think he also just doesnt wanna believe that one of his classmates has turned out to be his sworn enemy, as emotionally unstable as he is he still loves his friends and just doesnt wanna believe that they would betray him

I agree, his initial goal for transforming was to protect his Friends, Armin and Mikasa. Like he said, he "clung to his comrades and the bond they shared". The problem was, as much as he intellectually knows that Annie is the Female Titan, emotionally it's another matter all together. He still considers her as one of his comrades, maybe on an unconscious level. And I can't honestly blame him for that, it's a lot to take in, and let's not forget that he's just 15, they're all teenagers.

Eren's issue with transforming at the start of the episode stems from the fact that Eren refuses to believe that Annie is the female titan because they're supposed to be comrades and friends. Remember that Eren values his friends a lot. He even died just to avenge Thomas at the battle for Trost. He doesn't want to believe that a comrade would betray him.

I think at this point in the story it's not so easy to see that pattern of Eren's character. It won't be till S2 and 3 that it really sinks in for people. Most people don't notice Eren being in denial at finding out Marco died from Jean. Or notice the fact Call your name(Eren's theme) plays a sad rendition to Eren's reaction, the same theme to play for a certain event in s4, as Eren receives the wings of freedom he always dreamed of but realizing there was a price to that freedom. What should have been a triumphant occasion with our heroes' cloaks blowing in the wind after their acceptance into the illustrious scouts, something Eren spent his whole life dreaming of, ends with a shot of Eren's distraught face at reliving the memories of the dead scout-to-never-be, killed before he could celebrate with everyone who made it.

The anime for AoT changes pacing from the manga and also cuts out some details, the relationship between Eren and Annie being one of those alterations. In the manga Eren is the 2nd best hand to hand fighter among the cadets and this fact is the reason why Eren's titan is so prolific with his fighting style. This is because, as they showed a small glimpse in the anime, Annie is the one who trained Eren for 3 years. Eren was the only person in the cadets who took the hand to hand training seriously and was the only person to make her laugh during those 3 years. Eren and Annie spent all the hand to hand sessions training and bonding with each other over that time period, and that's why Eren desperately doesn't want to believe Annie is the female titan... And Mikasa is aware of this... Mikasa noticed Eren and Annie spending so much time together in the cadets and Annie being the one to develop Eren's potential, furthering his progress towards his dream of killing every last one of the titans, and from this episode and Mikasa's bellicosity towards Annie we see what she thought of this fact. This relationship dynamic puts a new perspective on Mikasa interrogating Eren on his "performance issue" as you guys put it, and also throws a new perspective on Mikasa screaming to the Annie "I won't let you have Eren!" as well as Mikasa and Annie's dynamic as a whole. Also the cat in the blood is symbolic for the cruelty of the world, just as Mikasa said to Eren about having to fight Annie. This same symbolism was used in her flashback with the mantis eating the butterfly when she noticed the cruelty of life being intertwined with death.

As you asked, the commander's name who did their training is Keith Shadis. About the cat, i think he was just standing next to his dead master, since their was blood just beside the cat. Since now you all know about the confirmation that Annie is the Female titan, there is 2 OVA about her as well. I think the names of the episodes are Lost Girls, part 1-2. So after watching season 1, I recommend to watch the OVAs of Levi, No Regrets part 1-2, and Lost Girls, part 1-2. All can be watched after season 1.

I'm not a manga expert, but I just wanted to say that I saw this part in the manga and Mikasa was actually feeling responsible for Levi's injury and thinking she had to make up for that mistake while in the anime she thinks only about Eren. And I know of at least a few more moments where in the manga she had more insightful lines that in the anime where just changed to EREEEHH. Just wanted to vent I guess, I love so much the work they did in the anime and obviously some changes are needed, but those changes in particular seem like such a terrible idea to me.

the first time i saw this episode i also thought erens hesitation to fight annie was because he had a crush on her but apparently it was that they are really close in the manga during the training arc i feel like eren had a lot of respect and view her as one of the first people that actually pushed him to become a good fighter so he still couldn’t see her as the enemy Mikasa coming to the conclusion that he isn’t doing it because he likes her is just because she’s blindly in love with Eren i don’t think she even thought about it before this moment 😅

Good question, and the answer is yes, animals do not feel threatened by titans at all. In one of the early episodes, I think ep 5, they'd covered this fact. Titans never bother the animals, so the animals don't mind them. Although I suppose domestic animals within the walls that never go out may still get frightened simply because they've never encountered titans before.

there is actually no deeper reason other than the fact that eren was really shocked that a human of the wall would be a titan and an enemy of humanity also eren actually learned close combat training from annie so she was technically his teacher, hence why he was so hesitant to accept the fact and was in denial

About the cat :P My house cat is the same, runs away at the sounds of the doorbell lol. Im guessing most house cats are like that. But below my building, theres a stray kitty. And that guy is fearless. My Neighbors hold down their dogs when their out for a walk and the dogs try their best to attack that cat, and the cat just doesnt give a f*** xD He just keeps sitting there chill.

Imagine training with your friends for years hoping to end this misery one day and to be free by the titans and suddenly you learn your closest friend is a fucking titan who is responisble for so many deaths(including Erens mom and so more) Eren just cant imagine Annie doing such things. The Annie Eren knew wouldnt have done something like this and thats Erens problems. His emotions and thoughts were stopping him from transforming. He clouldnt believe that Annie really is the female titan who did all of this.... Eren is really emotional character. For mikasa its easy to just switch off her feelings when needed or to protect Eren, Eren on the ither hand cant do that so easily. He needs time to understand and to process to get along with his own emotions.

dont forget that Erens reason to turn fully on to a titan was his hatred for titans. Now he got this situation, where its needed to turn, but cant use blame the titans for his rage. It was mentally just completly a moral grey zone for Eren and therefor he couldnt get his rage togther until he starting viewing annie not as the person, but as the titan itself

It was so hard for eren to transform because he still thought of Annie as a comrade and though she still had a chance he knew once he transformed he couldn't stop himself from fighting her that was it.
