This is pretty much the plot twist theme. Or I guess more accurately the expectation subversion theme. First episode of season 1, drawing us into what Attack On Titan was going to be about. Definitely not about fluffy bunnies, that's for sure. Then, Season 2, Reiner and Bertholdt revealing they are the Armoured and Colossal Titan.

You're not paying attention to this season: Eren is not the emotional kid he was back then. He was NOT furious while transforming. Rewatch the entire scene and pay attention. It doesn't fit during a declaration of WAR... we're not talking about a betrayal like Bertolt's and Reiner's, it's not an emotional moment in that sense. Not to mention, this song is the one that plays during Carla's death and when Eren transforms the first time against Annie. It fits even less. And even if you grabbed Vogel im Kafig from Reiner's betrayal, it doesn't make sense to add it. People only want it because of nostalgia, they don't understand that the overall situation of Eren's infiltration and declaration of war does not fit the theme this song has been used for, which is betrayal and Eren's innocence being truly shattered. Eren is WAY past that theme, and this song has no place for this season. Silly nostalgia is the only reason people want Vogel im Kafig to come back. I don't think the original score from the scene is that great. In my opinion, they should have used Ashes on the Fire, it just fits the situation way better while also being extremely pumping and exciting.

It would be especially great now when Erens role changed and he is still a bird in a cage as he can't escape his destiny. But I totally understand what you're getting at.
