This song has three parts. The first part describes the beauty of life and nature. The second part contemplates on human mortality, and that we will all die one day. The last part is about not accepting a cruel fate and about fighting for your survival. Pretty much sums up the whole story and philosophy of Attack on Titan. The spectrum of emotions in this song is just out of this world, it is a sad, happy, beautiful and angry song, all at once! Its a pity I can only give one thumb up for this song!

I notice it when hearing songs in English written by Japanese composers, as well. Their language works very well for having exactly one syllable every note, and it all flows together. Whereas the Latin-descendant languages like ours lend themselves to extended vowels and diphthongs, with syllables stretching out over multiple notes in order to correctly place emphasis. So when a Japanese composer is used to fitting a whole lot of syllables into a song (which is easy to do with Japanese), writing it effectively in German or English gets really hard to do. And I'm sure that English/German composers writing Japanese lyrics sound just as strange to native speakers!
@wolfgangkolber381
@wolfgangkolber381 Жыл бұрын
@@SomeKZbinTraveler Apologies if this comes across as nitpicky, it is not meant to be. The English language is primarily descended from Proto-Germanic, with the later Greek/Latin additions only coming about after Duke William the Bastard of Normandy invaded in 1066. It's actually the reason our grammar is so messed up compared to other countries. Trying to mesh together a Romance and Germanic language like we did just didn't work that well, I guess.

@wolfgangkolber381
@wolfgangkolber381 Жыл бұрын
@@crytill Sorry, I'm not fully certain what you're trying to say. Languages such as English, German, Dutch, Frankish (which is dead) and any Scandinavian language except for Finnish are examples of Germanic languages. Romanian, Italian, French, and Spanish are examples of Romance (as in, Roman) languages. After Duke William the Bastard of Normandy conquered Britain in 1066 the English aristocracy was largely Francified. Nowadays about 60% of the English vocabulary is of French/Latin origin, though I think around 80% or more of the words we say on a day to day basis are Germanic. English generally has more contradictions and inconsistencies than most other language because of this combination, and is therefor sometimes described as being one of the harder languages to learn. I suppose I should clarify that German and Germanic are two separate things. Germanic refers to languages descended from Proto-Germanic, the spoken language of much of non-Mediterranean Europe around 300 AD and before. Romance or Romantic refers to languages descended from the Roman conquest, and so they could also be called Latin-based languages.

I remain eternally amazed at the ability the Japanese have to understand feelings and apt composition in those other languages to hit it out of the park. Like... how?! I know music is a universal language, but a deliberate decision was made at a point to go with one language over another, and the fact they explored the options speaks so much about them and their creativity.

 @efrainjrivera - It isn't a "Japanese" thing. It is a Hiroyuki Sawano thing. Hiroyuki Sawano is a genius at creating music. Sawano was hired to make music for the anime show Attack on TItan, and the show itself is influenced by a German culture and setting...so that is why Sawano made the music piece in German.

I feel like the song is divided into three parts, each representing three major characters. The first part depicts- nature, peace and understanding of life. I think it represents Armin best as his thirst for knowledge has always been a part of him. He always loved to explore, to see new things. He found deep meanings in the littlest of things. His optimism and passion are one of the reasons AOT is memorable and bittersweet. The second part depicts- cruelty in the world, pain and acceptance of death and mortality. This definitely represents Mikasa after all she has been through. It shows how she knows that life is short and people die. it shows her insight on realism, which is again an important part of AOT. Mikasa is by far the most realistic person in AOT and the fact that she can find beauty in the cruel world of AOT is also what makes her character deep. The third part depicts- moving forward, not giving up and believing in yourself. This part is definitely Eren. It shows his willpower and courage. How no matter what happened, he never backed down. He always wanted to be free. He didn't want fate to trap him. This is ironic since fate did indeed trap him. He was a "Vogel im käfig" which translates to "A bird in a cage". Always yearning to be free and fly in the blue sky but never achieving it.

God, I actually cried a bit at the end there. There is something about the music from this show, and this song in particular, that just really gets at such a core human emotion: suffering. You can hear it in every note. Humanity is fighting and struggling, and every second is agony. There are brief moments where it seems as though we might prevail, and then immediately afterwards the harshness of reality crashes down again. Also, holy shit, those lyrics really weren't done justice in the original. That performance was AMAZING.

Well considering that, if i'm correct, they are french and so the teaching of german is widespread (along with the possibility to meet lots of german people) that should come as no surprise. Moreover, no offense intended, but considering the heavy accent that many japanese have even when speaking a common language like english I doubt they might have a very good one when speaking an even more alien language like german

@@jisaskrayst My translation of the Lyrics (sorry for any mistakes): "The inner richness of people is like light shining through colourful glass. The comfortable daily life is like a warm candle light. This vast green earth, This rich beautiful Water, The amazing nature still cares for her children. Hopefully we can understand it some day, We are going to the other side of the horizon. Hopefully we can understand it someday. We are going with heavy steps. Everything living dies someday. If we are ready to die or not, the day will come surely. Is that the angel who flew from the twilight sky? Is that the devil who came crawling through the rock fissure? Tears, Anger, compassion, cruelty Peace, Chaos, Belive, Betrayl We are going to fight against our Fate. We are not allowed to accept our Fate. With sadness and Desicion in our hearts we are showing our will to go on. No life should be taken just like that." I am not quite sure if that's truly suitable for a wedding...

I love how this song is telling us a story about Eren's life from his happy and peaceful youth with Armin and Mikasa until the fall of Shiganshina which resulted the death of her mother. The moment he entered the military, met his new comrades, the formation of their friendship up until the betrayal of Annie, Reiner and Bertholdt. This song perfectly captures the emotion Eren went through and now that he is driven by anger, rage and revenge. Truly beautiful and tragic.

@@Zyhmet I think that I can hear a slight accent, but it was really good. However, singing like this is very different from speaking and thus it's hard to asses. For instance, I don't speak Spanish, but I can spot a German speakers accent in Spanish immediately. However, in case of Tinta from Faun, I can't tell.

Attack on Titan is an epic unpredictable Anime similar to Game of Thrones in that it pulls you in with the great story and not knowing what will happen next! This is an amazing rendition of a song from the show. English Subtitles would be nice, so most would know the meaning.
