it's IPA, or International Phonetic Alphabet. it's used for demonstrating the pronunciation of words (e.g., through and though) when it may be unclear how to pronounce them (think surnames in different languages or new words). It can be seen in most Wikipedia articles for names that may be difficult to pronounce and is quite common over there. It's just a reference to how the original song's name is spelt (which makes it an absolute pain to look up), nothing crazy or weird. just a neat reference

My favorite part of this is that this track was originally just called "Attack on Titan", in completely normal font. At some point, Sawano-san apparently just woke up and chose to brutalize it into whatever it is now for no discernible reason. Banger remix btw.

He uses weird characters or word play for pretty much all his titles (like for Kill la Kill where most of the tracks are just variations on the name of the anime lol)

All the versions i heard, like the one in the "Attack on titan Suite" video on hiroyuki sawano's channel have other vocals than just the choirs, which in my opinion is the best part of the song. AoT originally, likely, leeched off of Claymore. The thing is that the author of Claymore knew what he wanted from the overarching plot and DnD'd his characters around it. There the whole "you're actually a prisoner island experiment" plot was also mentioned, because it had no actual bearing on characters' actions, nor they were actually strong enough to go against it. In AoT... it just kept going.
