People will care if (when dTAO is live) you have a large allocation to an individual subnet that comes under attack like this. That’s why dTAO comes with a lot of risk and people need to understand what they are doing when staking to individual subnets. There’s more reward but far greater risk also. Does your community know about staking to ‘Root’ to avoid this risk. Root being the ‘safe option’ with a lower APY than going all in on dTAO and individual subnets. Personally I’m going 100% to Root when dTAO goes live. I’d much rather have a lower monthly APY than face capital loss.

For people who don’t understand the subnets or the dTAO process. Bittensor and the TAO coin will do amazing things. I’m sure the price of TAO will rocket to new highs in price into the thousands of dollars/pounds etc (ie, 1000, 2000, 3000 over time etc) You need to understand that when dTAO goes live (probably in the New Year now) any TAO holders that are currently staking their TAO will automatically be transferred into the ‘safe option’ of root staking. This means you will still be getting a risk free APY (but a lower APY than it is now, approximately 50% lower) but with this option it’s totally risk free and people can enjoy staking just like it is now, just with a lower APY. If you want to ‘opt in’ to the new dTAO process you will manually have to do this via your wallet. This means you will allocate a portion of your TAO onto the various subnets in the form of dTAO staking pools. This is where the risk element is as dTAO is more risk, more reward. By picking the right subnets through your own due diligence if you pick successful subnet your APY could be massive, way beyond what it is now. But if you choose the wrong subnets, the ones that crash and burn through bad leadership / poor performance or even a scam subnet or one that comes under attack as mentioned in this video. The dTAO staking pool associated with that subnet will crash in price. Therefore making the value of your allocation plummet in price. Worst case scenario is you loose all the value of the coins that you allocated to that pool/subnet. If you don’t want to take on this dTAO risk you have two choices. 1. stay staking in root option and enjoy the risk free lower APY and just be happy with that and of course if the price of TAO increases your portfolio increases, or 2. Avoid staking altogether and just hold the TAO coin in your wallet and enjoy price increases. But to be honest this is pointless as you may as well do option 1 as there is NO risk to your capital and you will get a risk free APY. I’m doing 100% on root myself (option 1)
