Well done sir. Always love learning about lesser known topics . Great footage of the terrain and you could really see just how close the 24th NY was to the CSA during that rock fight. Keep up the great work bud!!! 🇺🇸

It’s one of those weird stories that’s buried in all the chaos. That terrain definitely was surprisingly open. I didn’t realize that.

That was a great video. Another lesser known incident. Can you imagine being a bystander and seeing these men throwing rocks at each other?

ONCE AGAIN... Well done James... you took me in and I felt it, saw it, smelt... The U.S. Civil war was SO HORRIFIC... Such incredible courage in the face of hell. Stone fighting ... unbelieible... then Stonewall Jackson honouring his Union friend killed. Such dedication... the civil war was full of tragic heroic stories... I learn from your WELL DONE VIDEOS... Like I said... you take us into the fight.

I appreciate the kind words Carson. My goal is to always take you there with me and explore the ground while learning about the men from both sides.

Excellent presentation and once again learned a ton. You really do a great job in making us all feel like we are there on the battlefield, as other have commented. Well done!

I've done this guided battlefield walk last year. It's a wide open slaughter pen. The Federals were completely exposed. The Manassas Battlefield Rangers do a great job on both battles of Manassas.

My great great uncle participated in the Manassas Rock Fight. He was an original member of Wheat's Louisiana Tiger Battalion. By the time of 2nd Manassas Wheat was dead and what was left of the Battalion had been merged with Coppens Louisiana Zouaves, which was part of Starkes command. He wrote a letter to his sister a couple of days after the battle in which he specifically mentioned the rock throwing incident. That letter would also be the last time he was ever heard from as he was listed as missing after the battle of Antietam a couple of weeks later.

I appreciate you sharing your family’s story. That’s incredible he took part and mentioned it in a letter home. Thanks for watching

His unit fought in the Cornfield at Antietam where they would have been up against another one of my ancestors who served in the 19th Indiana.

Have to imagine the reaction of the first solider to get hit with a rock...

Right?! It’s such a weird exchange in the middle of so much carnage.

The stunning takeaway from this portion of the battlefield was somehow, someway General Stonewall Jackson was able to hide 22.000 troops in the railroad cut & in the woods behind the cut!!

He wasn’t a perfect general but he did some incredible things during his tenure. Made the Union looks silly a few times for sure.

Yeah they were pretty bad. I had at least 10 on my legs. Luckily they didn’t make it far thanks to the bug spray.

This advance seemed like suicide. I couldn’t imagine advancing under the hail of artillery zeroed in and then take small arms fire from a position you can barely see.

I couldn’t agree more. It is eerie walking these grounds trying to imagine the mindsets of these guys.
