Here in Finland, in the Tampere region, at the turn of the 70s and 80s, a local transport entrepreneur bought two Generals for transporting concrete hollow core slabs. My father, who also drove trucks, saw them often on the road. Apparently, attention was paid when American trucks were seen otherwise. This was a time before EU limits and drivers gave them gas :) One of the cars is still alive, restored by an industry enthusiast. The newer one was destroyed in a bad crash on an icy road in 1985. Another truck enthusiast has also bought a General in the last decade, this is what Finnish-language hobby magazines tell us: Ajolinja 2/2014 & v8 magazine 7/1982, you can find articles.

Haha, I just picked up a 1987 377 Pete on Saturday. It was a factory glider truck with a big cam 3 and an Eaton 13 speed transmission. The truck never was titled until 1997, 10 years later. It was used for a parade truck and a back up truck. It’s been parked for the last 24 years an a building. It’s like a time capsule like new condition and it runs and drives like a new truck. The speedo shows 77,000 miles on it. Looking forward to start using it. I drove 45 miles home.

Good old Detroit Engine always boiling over. My dad had a brand new 1977 International with V8-92-TT. He had it 9 month and it was overhauled 3 time and used 320 gallons of oil, not counting oil used when overhauled. He finally sued them to get his money back which took 5 years to get that completed.

it’s normal for old trucks to burp out coolant. coolant expands and it needs a place to go and since they didn’t have expansion tanks it just goes onto the ground and it stays happy there usually. also those trucks have shutters infront of the rad which could be siezed shut and not letting cooling happen.

Great vid Bruce and team! Its nice to see on occasion, you getting back to your roots that helped get you to where you are today. Im aware how peoples visions and plans shape, mold and change as time goes on allowing you to evolve into what you are today. Im also aware of the sacrifices one must make and the sacrifices ones family also must make to allow all of this to come together. Id like to say thank you to you and your family for allowing us to be part of the journey!

The thermostats let coolant into the radiator to cool the engine... if they weren't working the radiator would be cool. Maybe it was the fan clutch that was barely spinning...

Hey Bruce. 👋 Awesome Jimmy General. 👍👍 If you plan to restore it, what color would you going to paint the rig? But the real question I ment to ask is, How is it going on the old WHITE Tractor Truck? I know you pressure washed it, but are you going to give it a different color or give it another coat of the same red? Please leave a comment and 👍. Please and Thank you.
