Attending the Met Gala | Violet Does

In this week’s video, I wanted to give you guys a behind the scenes exclusive look of what went into preparing for one of my most memorable experiences to date. Being invited to the Met Gala is an honor I wont soon forget and I want to thank all of the people who made it happen. Thanks to Jeremy Scott and the Moschino team, Mac Cosmetics for hooking me up with the makeup, and everyone else who helped in making this an incredible night!

@ohmvichanThat's fair I do get what you're saying. But it's also like camp is about performativity, exaggeration as well as nuance. As much as Violet could have turned up in some elaborate gigantic outfit, it wouldn't necessarily have been taken as anything new, interesting or exciting for a drag queen considering everyday drag performance is already about exaggeration and extravagance. Finding the nuance between being overtly loud whilst still being camp is kind of admirable in this instance

People asking how this is camp are so funny to me?? She’s wearing a satin glove as a dress. It was perfectly campy, and far more campy than what a LOT of celebrities were wearing. Campy isn’t over the top, it isn’t a Lisa Frank atom bomb, and it doesn’t always have to be on the nose. Violet being there and being a drag queen was camp itself. You don’t need a costume change or to be dressed like a chandelier or anything like that to be camp. Curb your expectations because camp will never be what you expect.

Seeing all the looks Violet was definitely one of the closest to the theme, especially with her corny "I glove it!" and "Fits like a glove!" lines. A lot of people were going kind of out-there but not necessarily in a campy way. So happy for you Violet!
