Please keep in mind, I am neither an audio engineer nor am I a podcaster. I just like to play around with audio/video production equipment. If you are an audio person and you have any tips to potentially make this work better, post your tips in the comments here to let people know how to get the most out of this project!

Great idea for a down and dirty solution to self producing an interview.

Hey, I just stumbled upon this video and have a suggestion regarding your comments in the closing thoughts section: Maybe using the "Advanced Scene Switcher" plug-in of OBS might be an alternative, which allows you to switch scenes based on volume levels of sources also. This might be more user-friendly to setup, although admittedly it could be improved in that regard. It also lets you configure a duration for which the volume threshold must be met before triggering the scene change, which might help with the short hissing sounds triggering a scene change. Finally a scene can be specified for situation, where multiple audio inputs reach their configured volume thresholds, which might help in situations like the mentioned comedy podcast scenario. (Disclosure: I am the developer of the advanced scene switcher plug-in - feedback is always welcome :))

Oh wow! I've used Advanced scene switcher to build an automated informational channel for a weather feed. I had no idea that it could switch based on audio levels, I must have just overlooked that feature. Time for me to make another video! Keep up the great work, Advanced Scene Switcher is awesome!!

I had a chance to look at Advanced Scene Switcher, and that's definitely the way to do it! Thanks!

@Till I tried using the Audio tab in Advanced Scene Switcher, tinkered with all the features, threshold, what scene to switch to, and got signal from an audio input (my mic). Nothing seems to trigger or switch the scene... What could I be doing wrong? I have all the latest updates for software, and running on Windows 10.

Hey @@luja805, It is very difficult for me to say without knowing what else you have configured. To get started it would be helpful if you could export your current settings (General tab) and share them with me. It might also be useful if you could share a log file of when the issue occurs with verbose logging enabled (General tab). I would suggest you start a conversation with me on the OBS forums so we can analyse your problem further. Doing this via KZbin comments will be too messy ;)

Optimally it would be nice if it could switch to a third "hard cam" when both mics are receiving input.

I don't do podcasts, but I can see the potential here. Once again, nice find mate :) What's going on with your colour balance btw?

On the color balance, I've been limited on time over the past few weeks, and I got a new webcam in for review. I'm killing two birds with one stone by recording some test footage here. That's something that will be addressed in the webcam review.

I'm thinking this won't work for well for a crowded room
