I agree to a certain extent, however, did racism come from women first ?? I’ve said this multiple times, but it’s very interesting that we can come up with all of these grandiose reasons to dismiss the experiences of black women, but we have to poignantly and make zero excuses for racism . At the end of the day, colourism is a branch of racism, which is the origin . It’s interesting that you completely dismiss all of the black men during the 90s and present day that obsessed over red bone, yellow bone, you would look better yellow. Completely ignore Charlemagne da God constantly taunting DJ envy for having light skin, calling him a Mexican and American, despite the fact that he is 100% black American. Calling him waffle coloured, dark skin rapper, calling Drake soft!! And lil Wanye who recently did the interview stating that Drake receives a lot of jealousy because he was light skin. So like I said, we are able to understand and rationalise everything else, apart from the experiences and voices of dark skin women !!

Colorism is in most races but extremely so in the black community . One comment I use to get growing up is that I was pretty to be a dark-skinned woman. Never understood that being younger because I was told by family members I was just a pretty girl. Beauty comes in all shades, we know that right?
@truthtelling1195
@truthtelling1195 4 ай бұрын
Don’t say anything about your experience, because unfortunately this comment section does not believe that skin women 90% of the people are saying she’s lying, but it’s very interesting because these are the same people who will scream racism, but completely refused to acknowledge colourism from a dark skinned woman (which is literally racism). Dark skin women were discriminated against, and for some reason whenever we speak about the stories it’s like this vitriolic reaction people get so irritated and want us to melt into the background and be quiet. We’re not allowed to speak about anything

@@AbsolutelyNoOne12 yup, it works in the same way for women who are bigger. Also, they are very dismissive of any experience. A bigger woman or a black woman has you have to disappear and say into the background and when you are confident and secure in yourself, they have a huge issue with it. On the flipside , if the bigger girl loses weight, that’s when you see the truth, nature of people because they are more than happy for you to play background, they automatically see you as competition, and that’s when you see the mean girls come out!! The jealousy is in full swing lol

The young lady, I promise did not look at it as condescending. I will keep my skin color out of it so that maybe your response would have been different. Didn't realize it was going to be a problem. I certainly cannot prevent you from reading it in the tone you chose to, a condescending one. But face more bc any woman could always slim down and look great, especially with a pretty face, but if you've just got a body but an unattractive face, you can't really do anything about that. And makeup doesn't even help. An example of this would be how celebrity women like Margot Robbie are always propped up bc they are slim and have attractive faces. Margot Robbie isn't known for her body. She is just slim. But maybe it's different in your community ..

Thank you, light skin, women make this skin tone, the entire personality. Myspace and MSN really expose this in the early 2000s and even more recently on Instagram. They call themselves hazel eyes 360, yellowbadieforever Mixedchick98 green eyes, Bethany. The features and skin tone is the entire personality. They have absolutely nothing else to contribute, but unfortunately as the black community we allow them to get away with it because we also inherently value proximity to whiteness. It’s absolutely insane and it’s no surprise to see most of the comments on this video gaslighting, denying and dismissing the experiences of dark skin, black women. You all just pretend to be bros who can get along, despite envy and insecurity and disagreements. Women tend to be nicer to one another, especially these days knowing that it's important to not compete with each other anymore and form a strong union as women. But males hate on other male's cars, outfits and shoes, social status, and especially women. The only thing I can see you guys not hating on another man for is his intelligence or talent bc those are unshallow things at least.

I weird trend I noticed in the 2000s was virtue signaling regarding the darker shades. Other women might say, "Oh she's so beautiful, don't you agree?" If I said "she looks very nice", that was taken as an insult. I feel the same way about light skinned people too. When I see pretty or handsome now, I wonder about their character, integrity, morals, humor, temperament, talents, and what kind of problems they have. Sounds cliche but it's true that beauty is in the inside, even when you're considering a dog at the shelter.

My boyfriend, girlfriend, and I all went to a birthday party together and she low key was doing things to get his attention and low key flirting. I really think it’s because it’s hard for her to accept that she’s not getting all the attention. It was like she was thinking how dare my darkskin ass get more attention than her mighty light skin ass. This is not supposed to happen!!?? Our whole lives she was put on a pedestal because she was lightskinned and now it’s hard for her to accept that she’s not the center of attention anymore. We are in our late 40s. Another light skin friend always talking how fine she is because she light skin but when I came over she was so insecure she hid her man in the closet be she felt like he man would want me. The double edged sword to light skin / pretty privilege is that from birth to high school they were told how pretty they were and got addicted to the attention that eventually comes to an end after high school. Meanwhile the darker and average girl who didn’t get the attention from birth to high school have excepted their looks and learned to work with their “ugly “ and it’s no longer ugly. Have the confidence and don’t need or expect validation from the outside world because from birth to adulthood they had to always validate themselves. You really never see average/ dark skin females begging pleading for a men not to leave them. It’s mostly light skin/ pretty privilege women who are not use to rejection and attention ready to off themselves because a man left them. Average women be like you don’t want me? All the time, I am a beautiful chocolate girl that has all the attributes of what most light skin women have. Long hair, good hair, flawless skin. The biggest issue was my hair, people always felt the need to tell me that dark skin girls aren’t suppose to have good hair. I was that kid who could go swimming & not worry about my hair during the pool or after and it drew a lot of attention that I hated. Wanting to touch my hair, saying I permed my hair. Never permed my hair. Then when flat iron became popular, I was accused of wearing weaves. I have always had long hair and as a dark person that seemed to always be an issue. To this day I have long hair. I have gotten into fights over my hair because I refused to allow someone to touch my hair to prove I had no weaves and they feel the need to try touch my hair. Every thing I mentioned are comments I have heard throughout my like. Oh you are beautiful to be of darker completion, to me that’s offensive to me to tell me in my skin tone if I didn’t have good hair, long hair , even skin tone I would be ugly.

I think you need to unpack your colour is it because you made a comment that was very ignorant. “ attributes, that light skin, women have) There are a ton of light skin women who has 4C hair, brown eyes like the most of us, acne, skin condition. Why do we automatically assumed I’d like skin is more beautiful ??? Oh, you never said that, however, your comment is inferring that these attributes are synonymous with light skin women and that’s completely not true. I know all races of women can have these attributes as well as the negatives so let’s stop pushing this narrative that black women can’t grow long hair. I know a ton of black girls that have real life bundles underneath their wig. There is a trend on TikTok of a dark skin black woman claiming that black women cannot grow hair and so many beautiful, black, specifically dark skin. Women have responded to the video, showing their long luscious natural hair.

I wear the scar on my face to this day & that was from a person that look like me but a shade lighter than me. I had another black girl stab me near me temple scar still their all because the unwanted attention about my hair. In my younger 20’s going to the club seem to always lead to an argument over my hair with people that look like me. I never could understand why was my hair such a big deal anytime I asked it was told to me. That a dark person normal don’t have the features I have, you see that in lighter skin girls/women. So what other conclusion should I come too? For other people statements If I come off as colorist maybe I have the right. You have no idea how much damage it does to a child who grows up mistreatment and the support to help her navigate the misguided unfair treatment of her hair & skin tone.I could never understand what was the big deal, about my facial , hair and skin tone. Those were the words told to be you have features of what light skin girls have that black dark girl should not have. It baffles others that know me why is everyone so fixated on my hair. I am not a hair person, I don’t go to a beauty shop to get my hair done. 98%of the time my hair is in a ponytail, even wearing a ponytail can lead to questions as to what chemicals I use to get my hair wavy and most don’t like my response. Grease & water. When I do my hair myself. I get compliments of my hair follow up question who did you hair? I say me and all hell break loose. Can I touch your hair? My response is no? That’s a problem, I wear my hair in its natural state (wavy curly) and that’s a problem. I get asked all the time what chemicals I use to get my hair to look like that. Friends that hung out with me are the ones that joke about the disagreement I get into about my hair. The stuff is crazy. Most of the time my hair issues starts off with a compliment & ends in a disagreement. Based on my response. As I have gotten older I just don’t respond to the foolishness & I have every right to have an attitude.
