Fun fact & attention to detail: if by chance your team encounters Ravenwest, The Radio Engineer will disappointedly tell you to give up and to: "Just aim for 3rd place. There's no chance we'll beat them, it's raven west after all." "Ravenwest has already won, Sigh.. just do your best kid, You can't do any more than that." in the opening introduction of the race. They specifically say Ravenwest because they're are the best team by ranking and earnings. Overwhelmed, Powerless, driven to despair at the sight of Ravenwest, The engineer tells you to give up. This attention to detail and what I remembered the most, I know it by heart because to me, I think that this encounter with raven west and the engineer, absolutely gets my heart going to beat them. To try to make the radio engineer proud as he lost all hope and desire to win.

racedriver grid had the best replay system, able to slow down pause and even play in slow motion at a speed you choose and change camera angles to the point where you can read the manufacture logo on the rims and see the studs on the wheels its incredible little details that made this game so great

remember that race track in San Francisco you race first time on the grey viper? some cars with difficult and not so strong suspension can have a suspension damage because of the jumps, Nissan skyline for example, some other cars are ok to jump just like that Dodge viper

Grid a pretty decent game that is good to play from time to time....best cars to drive in this game are old trans am cars and prestige cars even though the ccx doesn't go its registered top speed which is 242mph(goes 226 i believe). Le mans was a good edition but it gets pretty boring after a while. Thats why when i won 2 races with lmp1 cars and got all the sponsors, i pretty much drop doing le mans series....lmp2 and f3 cars are ridiculously understeery;was such a struggle to beat the lmp2 class at le mans because they seem to have waaay more acceleration than you and waaay better turning capabilites.Felt like you was a gt1 car in the lmp2 class....drifting the best in this game. Too bad you wasn't able to tandem with the ai since they drift like retards.... Dlc cars was a absolute pain to get for little reward. Most of them are understeery as hell and barely compete in their class. Only way to make them compete is to bring steering linearity down to -10 to -6 especially the bugatti veyron.... Some of the car models are goofy like the nsx-r na2(look how they massacred my boy!) And the chop top 350z.... stability and tc off basically put yo mama at either the front of the car or the back of it so it wasn't true assist off so i didn't bothered playing the game with assist of since it was a pain especially when ravenwest rolls around always starting in the front and staying in the front for the whole series.... shibuya is my nemesis track. Absolutely hate it....don't know why the r390 gt1 is in prototype class with a fucking group c mazda... it should be in gt1 like the mclaren f1 Ls swapped is..... and finally steering linearity ftw for any car that has too much understeer or oversteer..... Thats the end of my tedtalk, I hope you enjoy it.....

GRID original is the best racer I've ever played. The way the cars handle is just perfect for fun gameplay and really encourages aggressive/courageous driving. The damage model is sooo satisfying, the Flashbacks and video editor are awesome and the variety of content is too. However, one of the best aspects of it which I just haven't found in a more recent game (and which the sequels and reboot just don't seem to understand) is the, I guess you could call it; "team gameplay". Seeing your garage get bigger, choosing a team name, a teammate, a livery and colours, the best sponsorships, having your actual name and local currency being used, saving enough money to finally buy your own car for the 24-hr Le Mans race, how your team managers talk to you during and after races, beating those Ravenwest a-holes etc. Compare this to the flat, lifeless menus of other games which are just "click" *race* "done!" do it again... and you can see it's lost something significant. The racing is the main event sure, but these little things were an important addition which showcased a little bit more of the race-driver experience. Other games do *some* of this stuff but GRID had it all at once. And it was reeeaaly stylish to boot. I was kind of hoping they'd double down on it with the reboot. Bring back that team manager lady and of course the Race Engineer who always sounded like he was one more race away from retirement, maybe allow you to walk around the garage and put together a bigger team... but nah. Real missed opportunity.

Good old times free style drifting. One of the best Drift physics if not the best in 2008 and still better than some of today's games. I did enjoy Grid2 circuit race physics (1000+online races) but drift is just meh. NFS2015 drift physics is pretty good but too arcade-ish for my liking (still spent 250+ hrs with it though). I would say best drift physics imo is AC for realistic and GRID for fun arcade-ish. GT might be up there with AC but I never played. For those who never played GRID you have to.

Clipping points matter but far, FAR less than chaining drifts for the entire lap or event... Scores of 1, 2, 300 MILLION points kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4WZq2V3bqZ9l9U That's me out in front maxing out the multiplier by doing 19- 20 drift per lap in a 5 lap drift event for 99 drift on the multiplier, Even had a 7 lap pattern that was a bit different with 15 drifts per lap both being close to 100 drift in total. The damage model makes a mockery of many modern titles even to this day..... And what about the standings list? The career progression, earning of money and reputation, progressing trough tiers of cars and different categories, the entire team editor system, hiring and firing of drivers, good and bad skilled teammates, sponsor deals, team season earnings, a real sense of accomplishment when you complete the le mans at the season finale. You can be good, or bad. Nobody judges you. You don't have to finish first, you'll get paid, just less. And all races are mini cups. You finish multiple races and at the end of a cup your overall standings are what matter. All of these thing are completely non existent in newer games, especially disappointing even the new grid games lack these things. The guy talking to you doesn't sound like a narrator speaking to dumb gamers. It sounds like he is speaking to a racer, a person there. It's much more organic. It feels like every little thing you do has an impact on the world you're in. Because in a sense it has. Teams better and worse ones race, and other drivers progress and change standings, they don't wait for you. A world is living with or without you. So many thing done so right. This is the core of what made grid 2008 soo goddamn good. Grid was way ahead of it's time. The only lackluster thing in this game was the handling, a major thing yes, but with enough practice I got very good in this game, completed it once on extreme. But that is also only possible if the game holds my attention long enough, and doesn't get boring quickly. After grid, most other racers were boring after a few races only. There is no real sense of progression or anything really. You go from a race to menus, not to the team garage. You don't speak to nobody, nor anybody speaks to you anymore. There are no interactions outside racing itself. They might have more realism and accuracy, in technical aspects but lack the feeling of me actually being there. As soon as the race ends all immersion is gone. Grid managed to create a living world, not a single other racing game has ever again captured this yet so effectively and smoothly. Grid even with all of it's flaws will always remain my favorite racing game of all time. All I ever want is this game redone in better graphics (but faithful in coloring for example the yellowish tone is a must) and some adjustments to handling.
