@@kwonjiahn8389 I’m so glad you and @sleepvillainz discovered who you are. ❤️ In my evangelical family, I was just “creative” and “sensitive,” and later on, I “struggled” with “same-sex attraction.” That conditioning really fucked me up (depression, addiction, suicidal ideation and several attempts) until I got actual (medical), affirmative healthcare (at 27). Evangelicalism is no joke. LGBTQ education would have saved me (probably all of us) from a lot of needless suffering. We have to keep fighting for little us’s to have access to acceptance, regardless of how vehemently bigots react. Everyone deserves to know who they are.

Like my friend saying "no one cares" really agitated me, If you want to say YOU don't care that's fine, but stop trying to make it seem like no one cares because then it implies when people acknowledge the existence of homophobia they are being dramatic. I'm happy my family is super supportive but they get confused why I feel so uncomfortable on nights out or when I would even hold my boyfriends hand because the UK are not as kind to the LGBTQ+ and it shows a hell lot more when drunk.....just because the racism, sexism and homophobia/transphobia doesn't hit the news for the UK does not mean it doesn't exist; it is very much alive and I can feel its getting worse

I definitely agree. The UK has a very much “if we don’t talk about it, it isn’t happening” vibe. So all the racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, is very much swept under the rug and NEVER addressed! It’s so heartbreaking to feel everything getting worse and knowing nobody is trying to change anything, but gaslighting the general public into thinking we’re imagining it :(

Like I said I do feel blessed with a supportive and safe family; even so its almost awkward to always bring up who I'm seeing who I have seen etc and even any 'LGBTQ+' subject. I do not take any points off my family for that because again the way the UK runs just makes them feel it shouldn't be as normal a topic as the rest. The amount of times I hear 'each to their own' which most of the time translates to 'don't bring any of that near me'....

it's because bullying works. in the US, particularly in cities, you can't be homophobic. you'll either lose your job or someone will fck you up. it's definitely different in home life and rural areas, but like Trixie said, it's so spread out in the US. You have to go to cities to be successful or even just to go to a decent bar. Some loser on the street might say a gay slur, but they're not going to do anything because they know they can't get away with anything beyond that.

I think many men are taught that violence is a way to protect themselves and defend their masculinity. I think it's a fight or flight response to people who already resort to violence to confront their fears. I think it can be sad and speaks to the fragility of identity for someone who never had to confront their selfhood when challenged (fragile masculinity as a concept). If you have to have to confront that at an early age like us out queer people, you learn early that the stability of your identity only depends on your ability to accept yourself and not on the opinions of those around you or society's expectations. That's not always true for all queer people but I think it puts us at an advantage in that way to get started earlier on being able to confront our identity sooner. Some people never form a distinct personhood or come to understand identity and just conform to what's expected of them. Some people just fit in to what's expected of them, are never challenged, and never have to think about identity in that way.

Not just for males tho. I’m bisexual and mostly feminine. Whenever I go to straight clubs with my boyfriend, I have a very violent mindset. The girls are all so competitive and toxic, I have to either act the same way even thought I could careless about their “man”. OR I become very “YASSS QUEEEN!” Just to be accepted by them, so they don’t take me as a threat. But when I’m in a lgbt+ club, I feel so free and nonviolent, I can just be happy and be myself. 🤷‍♀️

It's not just neds though tbf. I've dealt with plenty of middle to upper class people on nights out or hanging out with family/ friends who get a kick out of mocking or questioning the existence of queer people. I find them especially annoying bc they can't blame hostile environment or lack of education for their ignorance, which is typically the case for folk you might call neds. Comfortable people are just bored of their lives and resent themselves for it, so they like to subjugate non-boring people for entertainment and ego.

Not trying to brew an argument or anything, but I was in Scotland way back in 2004, and the kids there were rotten. We were told that bullying was a real issue. Those kids would be in their late 20's right about now, and I can just picture them being the type of people Katya spoke of.

It's a turtle pace change but at the very least it's happening and I can say it's working because as someone who is 33 with a ten yearold son who got bullied for a rapid short period and when my sisters(his auntie's) n' nana steeped in with the school(they didn't let me go with them because they know I have a short fuse and will get loudly ghetto so yeah that is why I avoided going) they properly handled the situation with his school along with the bully and my son no longer gets bullied much better day's🌈💯🤗 I hope someday the school system in Glasgow would do something similar because trust my words the anti bully program does work and is extremely affective...

@@janejanejaney they don't do it because they resent themselves they do it because they think they're better than everyone else and no one ever taught them otherwise when they were young enough to learn, they think it's funny and that people who are different to them don't matter, the consequence their behaviour has on the people they harass doesn't matter to them because they genuinely don't believe it's important or worth caring about. They aren't really suffering for their actions which is frustrating to admit but it is true, the only way to make them suffer is to make the people they bully matter.

@@stevennguyen4993 it’s almost as if Pride was curated to include all walks of life from all communities to gather together in their authenticity and not be judged. After being silenced, either socially or put to death for being gay, Pride is for everyone to be loud and proud about who they are. As you said, most people are private about their personal lives (which I’m sure you said that to focus the value of “privacy” onto straight people who want gays to be quietly gay) but the thing is, behind closed doors, regardless of sexuality or gender, people are doing things that you wouldn’t approve of if they were made public. Everyone has a right to be loud and proud about who they are, it’s not gay peoples responsibility to make straight people comfortable and it’s not straight peoples responsibility or right to choose how gay people express themselves. A few years ago I was watching Trixie's insta stories and the next ones were of a popular Miami barber I used to follow. Coincidentially he was recording Trixie walking right outside of his shop in full drag; they were laughing loudly and calling her names. In the last story the guy zoomed in, Trixie looked at the camera and walked away in silence with a sad look on her face. That was a very shocking thing to witness and I remember thinking: she's white, she has money and fame and she could still get hate-crimed at any moment just for existing while queer.

I accidentally came out to my mom and brother a week or so ago… my brother was being homophobic. Saying something about how he wouldn’t go to a gay person’s wedding. And I just felt so hurt and offended and before I realized it I said “well I’m bi. Would you not come to my wedding if I marry a woman?” And he said “no, I’d come to yours, but I’d sit in the back.” And he was serious. I feel lucky to have the support of my mom. She doesn’t do the warm and fuzzy emotions thing. She would never be one of those moms at a pride parade. But she’s very vocal when she doesn’t like something, and she was silent. My coming out story is so much better than a lot of people’s, and I feel grateful for that. But I think the shock of not only my brother’s blatant rejection and accidentally coming out like that I’m just kind of off kilter. Not great. It helps to watch videos like this, and I love these two fine gentle ladies. I try to remind myself that I can be quietly proud and not outwardly talk about it even though I’m technically out now. And that’s okay. Anyway, sorry. Blabber mouth.

I want to live and work mostly in the UK if I can but I sorta just realised that I'm only accustomed to my local homophobes/transphobes in Australia. Here, I know where I can go for help, I always have friends I can call if I feel unsafe and I'm finally able to walk past coppers without having a damn near panic attack. Now I guess I'll have to prepare to amass and transfer all that knowledge again for every new place I go to. Can't wait /s. Hopefully people might be a bit nicer and more accepting by the time I start travelling abroad.

As an Aussie who's family is from the UK and has travelled there quite a lot it really isn't noticably worse than in Australia, some places obviously are worse than others but generally people mind their business unless you're dressed super outrageously, and even then you'll get some people yelling at you but the threat of violence isn't more than it is over here. Transphobia is definitely worse to be fair, I've never witnessed any street harassment but the laws around trans people are nore discriminatory, so if that's a concern for you it might be worth waiting and assessing how things go, but general homophobia isn't that bad. The worst stuff stems from lad culture which while I don't know if there's an Aussie equivalent term we definitely have a similar culture here, if you can handle that you'll be fine in the UK
