I think the reason Epcot stopped using the busses as a transport system is pretty well understood. It was getting increasingly dangerous and problematic to mix even the slow moving vehicle traffic with the increasing pedestrian traffic on the paths. Similar problems were experienced with various trolleys in the other parks. So now any vehicle traffic is for presentation only and managed similar to a parade. As for why nobody knows what happened to the busses? As was said, they were transportation assets, not an attraction. They were just some old tour busses, dressed up a bit. Disposed of like any other aging and obsolete utility vehicles.

Body Wars has an uncanny resemblance to 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Voyage released in the late 60s. I wonder if there was any legal wrangling behind the scenes that also helped to close it down.
