What do you do with Hare meat? In the UK it is superb meat, for me in Yorkshire, its the best. Please dont say you dont harvest it. Best recipe for Hare, cook long time with a slow cooker, this is very Yorkshire recipe for our Aussie friends, pop a bit of onion and carrot in with it, the Hare gravy is fantastic, have it with loads of mashed potato, and of course Yorkshire pudding, on a sunday night, it gets you ready for the next week. Hare is very filling, dont try cooking a whole one, its what puts folk off, all that meat wasted. Of course, beef and Pheasant are better, but Hare is superb if you cook properly. Give it a try, you will become addicted to it. Its that good.

I sold my place on the NW slopes about a year before that drought ended, it wasn't fun up there. Even today it hasn't recovered then fires ripped the guts right out of the place. They were hard and sad times but it still broke my heart to leave the place.

How were the pest numbers during the drought? Were there still many pigs around, or did the big dry sort them out? I sure hope we don't see a dry run like that again any time soon.

Depended on the species, deer probably faired the best, pigs took a hit.

Nice vid. Nothing better than having 100% confidence in your guns and pulling off headshots left right and center. Also I agree with the heavier pills being better in the .308. What type are they? I started loading 130gr woodleigh weldcores for my .270 for sambar. Hopefully they penetrate all the way through unlike the 130gr softpoint I tried as a newbie lol

Thanks mate. The 165's for my 308 are speer SPBT's. Those woodleighs are great. Look up my last backpack sambar hunt. I'm running 130gn woodleighs in my 270WSM. They are a great pill. I am going to try 140gn Accubonds for a little more mass. Those sambar are big bastards.

Glad you like the video. It depends on the animal if we eat the meat or not. Deer 100% yes so long as we have freezer or fridge space. Rabbits and pigs sometimes but I'm not actually huge on either. I bring it home for family and friends that do enjoy it often.

They are just factory Federal American Eagle 130gn Speer Hollow Points. Website lists then at 3050fps from a 24" barrel.

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Thank you, I clocked the OSA 135 hp out of my 20'inch barrel at 2835 fps and I reload the 130hp Speer (way cheaper than Sierra) with good results however past 2900fps it barks and starts kicking like a mule, harder imo than the 150 ppu and 165 ADI (respectively 2735 and 2680!) So yes like you I do find the 165gn a lot more attractive.

The whole valley is very very dry unfortunately. And it's like that right up the divide towards QLD apparently. Very sad times. I was hunting through the millennial drought in the Hunter and those conditions weren't as dire as these.

Hi Liam. You just have to do the miles. Get out and door knock. Unfortunately it's not easy but sometimes you get someone that trusts you on appearances to hunt in their backyard.

You could try that. They are normally very busy people though and IMO probably won't call. You have to look at it like your own backyard. Would you let someone in based on a letter drop and no idea who that person is. Or would you be more willing if a well presented, polite person asked for 3 minutes of time for a quick chat. I know what works 😉

Is it a Kahles Helia on the .204? I regret selling my Helia CSX 3-12x56 my father. Got a banger deal on a Zeiss Victory HT 3-12x56 with the ASV turret, but the eyebox and tunnelvision on low magnification on it is horrendous, it is a beast in low light conditions though, same as the Helia.

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Alright, my bad! A bit jealous that you guys in Australia can use thermals for foxes and so on, but i guess that is because they are invasive, foxes are native in my country. Here in Sweden we are allowed to use NV or thermals for pigs only, but can't use any vehicle with a motor to hunt from. Just found your channel a couple of days ago, already know i will be here for the long haul. I'll make a Patreon account just so i can support the channel a bit more! Excellent shooting by the way!

It's all pretty similar country right up the Valley and over onto the Tamworth side. While not Weabonga I often drive through that area and gaze over towards there. Nice looking country for sure, hopefully they didn't shoot too many deer there last year.

EDGE of the OUTBACK it’s almost the reverse here , hardly anyone shoots without one ..given a lot of shooting goes on in a much closer proximity to houses over here it’s almost a requirement ..even the .22 rim fires run mods ..the last rifle I had without one was my manlicher 308 and that was twenty years ago ..talking of equipment have you had a go shooting of quad sticks ..? I’ve been using the viper flex ones for the last couple of years they’re like shooting of a bench ..rock steady ..enjoyed the vids mate ..
