ATV Reverse Stopped Working | Is it Pooched?

You lucky dog you! Cheapest fix ever. Last winter I was plowing with my wheeler and one headlight kept going out and I'm thinking crap there's a short somewhere. This spring I went to trace the wire and found out the bulb had worked its way out and was laying in the bottom of the lens! Nice when you can find the time to give a little TLC to your toys. Just a friendly tip when you cut bolts put a nut on first and it will chase the threads for you and give you a guide to cut straight! An old friend taught me about it!

Almost called it right! It was the brakes, although specifically not the issue I thought it was. Glad you got it fixed, and nothing that required too much expense.

Nothing like an easy inexpensive fix. Those universal joints in the driveshaft are probably due to be replaced this winter. Lotsa play there. May as well get the new seal for the rearend also. All that play in the shaft most likely tore up the seal. Keep up the hard work there our Northern neighbor.

Well Sandy you were very fortunate, a simple fix, could have been a lot worst anytime your dealing with binding gears. My 2003 Arctic Cat 400 gave out while hauling in my 3rd load of lumber to my remote cabin build. It ended up being magnets loose on flywheel. Had to tow it out with a Polaris. Lol. Anyhow parts are replaced and it’s running again but I think I need to do a complete go over as you did. Thanks for the great video once again. Even though I don’t comment all the time I never miss a video. We have the same interests.

Good deal that it was an easy fix Sandy. I have a 2016 Honda Rancher I purchased new and always keep it maintained changing fluids every year, checking and greasing all the CV joints, and checking the brakes. Hondas are good engines and very resilient to all weather conditions. Like you, I live on some acreage in northeastern Vermont and have cold snowy Winters as well. Cheers!

Easy fix but you have one more problem coming up. The drive yoke on the imput to your differential was loose either the set screw came loose on the shaft or the yoke or shaft is worn. that’ll be a problem pretty soon. Good luck and I like your videos.

Hi Sandy!!😀😀 I'm glad that it was a simple fix. When you showed us it the first time I thought it might be a break hanging up. But not a bolt missing. Hopefully the role pin didn't wobble out the hole in the output shaft. Keep a eye on the u joints. They seem a little loose. But they might last a long time yet. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

Isn't it nice when a repair only requires a bolt and not a major overhaul of the drivetrain...? I put spacers on my Polaris 6x6 as I use snowchains in winter time, and there is no room for chains without, and it makes the width of front and rear wheels the same. Stay safe, Sand - and bolt your vice to your workbench - makes it so much easier to use😉

Sandy I believe you can have some play between your cv shafts and differentials. Usually the front ones on the polaris bikes have a lot. I think the reason for the play in the front is because of the 4wd engagement.

I have a Ryobi Pressure Washer Model# RY80940B and it also has a Honda that powers it. Never have had a problem with it starting after 3 years of use for many washes of many things. During the active use period, I turn the fuel petcock off and wait for it to stop on its own at the end of the day. I run it completely out of fuel at the end of every season. I just checked the carb and after 3 years the carb. is perfectly clean like it has never been used. I also use a Twinkle Star "Foam Cannon" with it to avoid having to add chemicals to the soap tank. The foam cannon saves you from introducing corrosive chemicals or even soap to the pump and ruining the seals. Briggs (Briggs & Stratton 6151 Pump Saver) makes a really good end-of-year pump saver I use before winter storage that I'm sure you can use where you live as it gets a bit cold where you are. Now on to the video focus point: Simple fixes are always the best aren't they? Celebrate the easy ones and prepare for the worst, then you are never disappointed. Glad it was that easy for you.

I never drain my fuel tank when I store my 4 stroke power equipment for the Winter. I fill them up with 93 octane pump gas then top them off with 4oz of Sta-Bil and 4oz of HEET (yellow bottle). I then run the engine for a minute just to circulate the fuel, shut it down and store it. All my motors start right up with two or three pulls. Reason why I don't drain my fuel for storage is that condensation can build up even in a sealed tank and ruin your day eventually. Never had a problem after 10 years and I live in northeastern Vermont.

Hey Sandie I think I've worked out that me sawmill is the same as yours just rebranded as Forrestwest for Australia. Some things are different like the log clamp but the sawmill itself looks identical. My manual doesn't have torque tension for the blade I remember you mentioning it in a previous video can you please tell what your setting is. Rick

It never fails the bolts are always to long, like you I also cut them short, one thing I do is put a nut on them before cutting, it helps to get the burr off the end, most of the time it doesn’t need filing. I need that foam sprayer, my tank on the washer gave out, where did you get it?

Good idea with the nut, I’ll be sure to use that in the future. The foam cannon is off of Amazon. I sometimes put half soap half water and it still provides great coverage

Sooooo, what you're say is that you biggest problem is that you had a screw loose? Maybe check on the nut that holds the handle bars too....lol. A good repair and maintainance day in all! Vehicles are looking spiffy now.

Thank God it was just the caliper missing a bolt, tranny or diff would have been a whole different ball game...I like that soaper attachment, where did you get that? CTC or Princess Auto or elsewhere? Machines look like new!

if roll pin works back out again you can drive it back in and run heavy steel wire thru hole and tie the end of the wire tightly and that will hold it in . the holes in the yolk and shafts will wear. you need to replace ujoints before they break if they were to break you could break housing. i have to replace all of them on a mule plus the rear half shafts and they were a real bitch. that would be a good time to replace rear pinon seal.take care and be safe

CV Shaft movement is normal. Can’t see if it’s the input shaft yoke moving or the shaft side. Either way that’s not normal. Roll pin needs to go in flush.

The zerk you are missing is on prop shaft by the brake pedal, on the slip yoke. Also, on Polaris start with a 5lb hammer and go up.

Oh and about the engine sounding so good. Polaris went for the noise over function there. Instead of 180° firing that motor actually runs at 90°, that’s what makes the potato potato sound.

using a flat washer and a lock washer together defeats the propose of a lock washer ! A lock washer bites into the head of the bolt ( or nut ) and also bites into what ever you are securing with the bolt. a flat washer in the mix allows that movement between the two AKA loose bolts and nuts !!

lock washers act like a spring, it puts tension on both sides of the bolt keeping the threads tight so the bolt doesn’t back out. Lock washers when correctly tightened become flat with no biting edges. Using flat washers with lock washers is fine as long as they are the correct size.

I just ordered the HM126-14 Woodlander, it came as one package the saw head on top and the trailer on the bottom in two different steel crates, also had the ramp system, cant hook and a pack of 10 blades, total shipping weight was 1750 lbs. Funny side note the delivery truck paperwork had it listed as a "Wood Sewing Machine" hahaha.
