Hey Honda it’s been 10 years since you last made these! It’s time to make them again. I don’t care if it’s the carb version or efi, the fans deserve a new adult Honda sport quad and not just a 250. Please wake up Honda, you’d sell a ton of these instantly!

(2012 trx400x)This is my favorite four wheeler. Its a beast on the track, according to me. Pretty much low gear power which gets going from the start. Awesome on trails because it has enought clearance to get over most rocks. Amazing in the huge sandboxes (or sand dunes if you have to be specific) and is fun with paddle tires. I like it!

I have a 2013 and I put 450R front shocks on it all it required was a tiniest bit of grinding to the shocks to make them fit. Huge upgrade

The front 450R shocks is a must, mostly if you are a heavy rider, it is a much plusher ride by a lot, guaranteed. An extra oil cooler placed in the front will help sustain power when the engine gets hot. Port the header, thermo wrap it as well, install a heavy duty clutch; all these little improvements are noticeable on the top end with a much nicer sound out the pipe. Mine is the 2007, stock engine with all the above simple mods

400ex is a great ATV, I bought a 2006 brand new in 2007 as a left over, couple years later got laid off from my job and had to get rid of things which sucked. I regretted ever letting go of that 400ex. Years later I bought a used 2005 and still have it. No not as fast as the 450s but for what I do plinking around the trails I love it. Sadly though they ruined the styling of them starting in 2008. The original bug eye style from 99-04 was my favorite. I really liked the 05-07 style to but this 08 to new is just UGLY.

Bought my 2013 new, had a 2002 EX prior, great machines and love having reverse! Was a real pain turning around my old pre reverse EX in a tight spot but now it's easy as a snap. Only real complaint is the seat is uncomfortable as hell on a long ride. I recommend stuffing your shorts with baby powder pre ride to prevent rashing and ass sores. Great reliable machine, I've put some long hard hours on it and it's never skipped a beat, just regular oil changes and a few sets of tires are all it's needed.

Mine was pretty good. It was so muddy the time I went though. For a person with not track experience I thought it handled the jumps fine. Proper body position and throttle control off the lip and it’s a lot of fun. Don’t go for huge doubles.
@jetninjamonkey11 жыл бұрын
Pipe it, rejet the carb and it will be a much better atv. A hotter cam (though not necessary in my opinion to enjoy this atv) will help get the engine breathing and drinking more, and sparks timing advance key debatably provides gains. I own an 05 400ex, I absolutely enjoy it.

Equalizer 2 the 400ex is a great machine for trail riding just I little bumpy of a ride to make it simple, but if your only trail riding and not worried about speed go for a sportsman 500 or up they have independent suspension and are built like tanks

Kyle Yerian 450 will have a lot more power. 400 is easier to learn on. i'd go 450 because you'll eventually regret the 400. just be carful
@acrane27 жыл бұрын
The 450 Is more of a race based quad, with high power and lots of top end fun. The engine is greatly reliable, and generally fine. They are very finicky, and sometimes can be annoying to get used to. The low end first gear isn't so great for going through water or over big rocks, as it isn't very short. On the other hand, the 400EX has an extremely tame and DURABLE engine that will likely survive the apocalypse. It requires not as much maintenance , and is over all much better in the trails. It has a short first gear that is great for crawling, or going through a creek. It handles great, looks great, and is a lot of fun. Unless you are going to be hauling your sweet ass down a railroad bed, the only power difference is the torque of the two. Besides that, its your call. Hope I was a helping hand.
@rcmen26376 жыл бұрын
The 400ex will be WAYYYYYYYYYYY, More reliable. You will be rebuilding the 450 at merely 200 hrs. And that's expensive. 400ex will last for thousands if hours if oil is changed and filter is clean.

is there a noticeable difference between the 400 and 450r? worth the money or?
@jakeyfz30784 жыл бұрын
The 450r is made for racing so it has the power when ever you want. If you like putting around or just keeping the bike at a steady speed the 400 is where it’s at. The 450 is way better for the dunes because they have really tall gears which is better for hill climbs.

true..i got mixed up with the 300ex..but still..the end 90s 400ex never used "new" technology, it was simply an already existing, already proved technology adapted to a different quad...so IMO my previous argument is still valid...since, also, as u say, the engine do comes from the 80s (XR400)...so..there was (back in the time when the 400ex came out) othing new to it...it was just old-already-proven reliability..

Radial 4 valve, not “radical”
@terryedmond44926 жыл бұрын
Not made for mud or snow, but anything else, it'll put a huge shit-eating grin on your face. Power to spin the tires - remember you only got two driving - but it's a wheelie-popping, doughnut spinning, flying dune and trail machine. It makes 4w drives seem like station wagons. At 350lbs, it can come back on you and you can hold it up, no problem. Slip that clutch though when you slow down and your tires grab when hill climbing or she'll come back on you. You really need this and a nice quad to pull you out of the mud, but you can get off and pull while throttling and walk it out of most mud situations so wear boots - not tennies.
