Living Deep in the Mountains for My Otters [Otter Life Day 942]
After moving to Sagamihara, we continued to search for a place that would be more ideal for our otters.
We looked in Sagamihara City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Kanagawa Prefecture, and even Kagoshima Prefecture.
We searched for 3 years, but were unable to find an ideal place to live.
An acquaintance of mine saw this and introduced me to an old house in Nishitanzawa.
The river in Nishitanzawa is a natural habitat for landlocked salmon, and its water quality is the best in the prefecture.
With such a river right in front of the property, it is an ideal location for Aty.
We started renovations at the end of October and planned to move in at the end of November, but various problems arose.
I didn't have time to update SNS, and the year ended quickly.
At the end of January 2025, the end of renovations was finally in sight and life began to settle down.
We apologize for the long pause in updating the videos and for any concern this may have caused.

Aty: A little boy otter who came to our house at the age of 9 months.
At first he couldn't even swim in the river, but now he loves the river more than anything else and swims in it all year round.
Whenever we go out, he always walks ahead of everyone, so he has come to be called “Captain Aty”.
Ui: A tomboy with comical movements.
Because of her ferocious nature, she had to go from one owner to another.
At first, she was so ferocious that Aty was too frightened to even touch her.
But Ui opened up to us and now she and Aty make out every day.
Aty and Ui have been issued a certificate of registration as an internationally rare wild animal and plant species.
Although Ui may appear calm today, she used to be so ferocious that people could not approach her.
After more than a year of being bitten, she finally came to live with us.
Otters are very intelligent and watch the people around them very carefully.
They will never open their hearts to you if you only have a superficial relationship with them.
They are also very active animals and require several hours of exercise per day.
They need to be walked outside or swam in the river for two to three hours every day.
The amount of exercise they get inside the house will never be enough to satisfy their needs.
Please do your research on otters before you think that “I want to keep one."
You need to think carefully about whether you can face them with your life.

Rivers in Japan are already pretty darn clean, even the drainage in certain urban areas are so clean that koi fishes live in them. I can't even imagine how clean this cleanest river in the prefecture is! XD Anyway, Aty and especially Ui are so blessed to have Otterman as their dad. They're truly living the best life of safety of comfort under a human's care but still able to frolick in the wild like nature intended.
