@ropeburn6684 Жыл бұрын
@@liorsilverstein9802 No, big big no. Yes, more powerful gear can help, but it's not the end all be all, especially not in these days of abundant cpu power that can do just about everything you want at once - if you know what you're doing. And this whole video is a good example of "knowing what you're doing". Instead of using the simpleton brute force method of stacking more and ever more voices, he uses one plus the chaos modulation trick - which saves a lot of CPU time while sounding much better at the same time. Getting serious with your music isn't about spending big moneys, it's about learning how to use what you have most efficiently. And every run off the mill 500 moneys PC these days offers more than enough for everything you could ever want to do.

The sampler used to generate white noise in Vital can't be used as a modulation source. @@Afterscience742 yeah youre right. I actually.mapped the random oscillator using sample and hold at .001 seconds rate to get it to a suitable sound. This. Noise pitch modulation is never talked about in leads and supersaw tutorials, sadly. However, for example quite a number of good old classical trance, hardtrance and handsup from early 2000s used that. I was able to recreate the "DJs@Work - Someday" detuned lead only using the JP6K VSTi (a JP8000-inspired supersaw virtual synth) and effects from FL Studio by applying noise pitch modulation on 2 saw oscillators. I really felt like I re-discovered a long lost knowledge when I finished tinkering with the sound. Thanks for this tutorial, it shows how to make something similar on more modern and widely used tools.
@user-ny7el1sp6h Жыл бұрын
the jp8k and 8080 together with the virus ti dominated those genres back in the day, the virus also comes with a handy FM knob that you can use noise as a source with applied to the second saw oscillator which is detuned by default, giving it this characteristic immediately, but that's not to say god knows how many synths have a knob dedicated to fm with noise as source just as commonly as a dedicated pulsewidth knob

Chaos unison is part of what makes the eurorack module Mutable Instruments Plaits have such a nice supersaw in its grainswarm mode. Synth Tech E352 and other digital oscs from them also utilize chaos unison. I've actually seen it appear more in Eurorack than in VST's, even though it sounds amazing for supersaws and the likes. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to see it make an appearance in Serum! Thanks for sharing!

This is a really old technique I've seen used for decades. Except traditionally we normally just assign an LFO to the pitch of some or all oscillators and add a small amount of fast LFO to create a heavy detuned effect. I have couple of hardware supersaw videos on my channel where you can hear the technique used on some of my patches, specifically there is a hardstyle lead I made, you'll have to find it on my channel. I might try make some crazier leads with a more intense pitch modulation LFO this weekend and replicate this Serum type of lead. But this Serum lead sounds pretty wicked. Good job mate, thanks for showing us.

modulating the panning with chaos osc could make something like super haas. A multiplier for modulation like 10x, 100x is missing in this synth however a chaos mod about 1000 Hz is pretty much like white noise. What makes it distinct to regular noise is the sample and hold which is basically a bit redux. There is also a plugin by xfer called delta which could be used for extra grit.

hey, anyone that sees this, i found a rly cool trick to put along side the chaos modulated supersaw. if you use melda productions plugins, specifically, the ratioMB, put it in noise/tonal mode, and then crank the tonal ratio all the way up till you cant hear it, and turn the noise ratio all the way down, and then make crossover somewhere from 40 % to 0 % and it sounds so smooth, like butter. i like to tweak it around a little bit, i have it as a lead right now and the ratio of the noise on 4% and the ratio of the tonal at 74% and the crossover at 31% and it sounds so spicy.

For a while I've felt like more sound design tutorials should emphasize voicings and even ways to use them. Personally I'm getting way into chord planing again, it's so nice to fune a sound to just one transposed chord, and it's absolutely amazing for oldschool house and jungle vibes, stuff like that. You can go for something more neutral like the root up to the 9th in a minor chord, maybe voice it to have a wholetone or semitone on a square synth etc., it's more likely they can fit in common keys. When you just go for like a whole Dorian voicing, though, it's AMAZING. And yes, this means each chord is unambiguously in it's own key. This is the basis of a technique I discovered, you plane an entire scale and then invert for different chords. My favorite is just planing a diatonic scale down in 4ths for 4 chords total, then choose the roots and voice from there, consider starting the progression on a different point in the cycle segment, like in the order of 2, 4, 1, 3. Cycle of 5ths/4ths is super orderly, people won't even notice this is complex or out there a lot of the time, and it has a bunch of contrary motion etc. to prevent the symmetry from normal planing. If you want a sound that is definitely out there, descending/ascending in 6ths/minor thirds are super cool, cause it's a complete cycle with just 4 chords, but you're getting further from underlying diatonic order.
