Thank you Mark, you are one of my heroes. I am a 69 year old female from a family of carb & sugar eating diabetics. I am strong and disciplined. From poverty level income I earned a doctorate. At 60 pounds overweight I was miserable. I’ve tried every diet under the sun, including low calorie carb based, low fat etc, etc. I did paleo for one year and got rid of a significant amount of inflammation, but because of the carbs I was eating, I never shook the cravings and fell off the wagon and did not lose weight, but did get healthier. Then about 6 months ago I quit sugar. More inflammation gone and I felt the first very slight dampening of my cravings by doing that, but still no weight loss due to the rest of my carb diet choices. I then tried dirty keto with plant based chips, and processed bars, and again, couldn’t shake the cravings. I constantly fell off the wagon. However, dirty keto still had a slight further dampening effect on carb cravings and gave me the strength to go on strict keto (20 carbs a day). I finally started seeing a slow weight loss. I was eating veggies and small amount of lower carb fruit. Even though I was eating carbs, those few carbs did help again even further slightly dampen the cravings. However, the benefit to Mark's reset strict keto was more inflammation gone, and it had further lessened the uncontrollable cravings to allow me to jump into carnivore - which I call “keto on steroids.” I lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks. It was astounding. My family wouldn’t have believed it, if they hadn’t seen it. My inflammation disappeared. No more pre-diabetic. I started getting out of my chair easily, walked fluidly, and with very little exercise, I was building some muscle! For most of my life I hated exercise, but now realize this was because of what I believe to be the brain change that grain does, combined with my body’s effort to deal with grains/plants. Toward the end of my six weeks, I started wanting to exercise - in fact craving it. I will continue the carnivore diet until my weight is gone, then test and assess whether I want to add any plants in, and which ones. I did cut out cheese, because it was stalling me, so I look forward to eventually adding that back in. I have cream with a morning coffee w/ stevia. Love, love, love the results! Carnivore is my miracle!

I love keto and intermittent fasting! With this said, we should not judge people who can’t stop eating. In my work as a healer, I see that most eating disorders are rooted in deep emotional trauma. Eating lifts emotional pain and anxiety temporarily. We can’t talk about healthy eating habits without addressing the emotional healing. Without deep emotional healing, even the most effective eating program will fail over time.

I don’t honestly know where I would be right now without Keto and IF. Helping others transition to Keto takes time and as Mark states best achieved in a step down process. One of those steps that seems to help a lot of people is making things like Keto pancakes, fat bombs etc. They will get to fat adapted eventually if they don’t give up when they listen to people who make fun of them for liking Keto pancakes. What’s worse a night of alcohol or a Keto pancake?

This is golden, I learned so much. I'm definitely one of those people who "work out to eat", I'll happily run a couple extra miles a few days a week to be able to indulge in some red velvet pancakes or carne asada fries a couple times a week and still have abs. I've been doing it for years and it works quite well for me, but you guys have piqued my interest in a lot of health and energy benefits I'm missing out on ... also I love when you guys discussed the recipes. This was awesome!

When I was in the Army it was not uncommon for soldiers to ask the combat medics to give them IV's in the morning for hangovers. They liked the practice on administering IVs and the soldiers liked the way it clears a hangover almost instantly. A hangover is just dehydration. I think you asked the wrong guy, lol! Next podcast..hey Mark how do you get through those heavy crack withdrawals? Well theoretically I would administer lip balm to alleviate the burnt lips and herpes sores from sharing hot crack pipes.......Now if the guest is Tyrone Biggums...you've got the right person! Also wine hangovers are different from..alcohol hangovers..are different from beer hangovers. some will even break it up into Tequila, Whiskey or Vodka hangovers. IV works on them all...menudo pretty good too..especially with a Big Red..so I have heard :-)

The ones who fail on keto are the ones who are preoccupied finding keto cakes and pancake mixes before even in ketosis not to mention being fully adapted. Anyone who is preoccupied with macros off the bat is missing the point. Getting off sugar and carbs is like getting off drugs. It’s better to focus being gentle in your body and not eating any sugar or carbs and let the body do the rest.

Wait, calories are bs? So I've been intermittent fasting for about a year and just started trying to do keto for about a week. I'm supposedly supposed to have about 1800 -2000 calories a day according to these health calculators. I'm having trouble getting past like 7-800 a day eating eggs, mayo, cheese, sour cream and tuna. Not even sure if I'm doing it right. Basically just add a scoop of sour cream to my 3 eggs and add a bit of cheese. Sometimes add half avocado . Then a can of tuna with two scoops of mayo and a couple eggs. Not even looking to lose weight, looking for other many benefits people talk about keto. I know I feel better day by day but don't even know if I'm in ketosis. Blood level was 65 mg/dl before a meal. Any input would be helpful, thanks

John 9 The best you could do is to learn more about this. You can do that through Mark's website or find someone else here on YT to educate you. Shift the focus to what your body really need, instead of thinking about what is aloud. Make this tasty, enjoyable and healthy, so you can go on "forever". 🍀

Mark Sisson (on the left) is older but doesn't need to constantly sip water, is more alert and doesn't lose his train of thought. Guy on the left (Aubrey Marcus) who I don't know has an aura of disrespect by sucking on his bottle and partying the night before this interview.

Or ...they are "blowing 0.4mmol - 0.5mmol of ketones" "after 10 years of under 20 grams of carbs per day" because they are doing it wrong. Just because you are low carb doesn't mean that you're on a "well formulated" ketogenic diet or that your body is producing and using insulin efficiently as it could. Other factors are needed for it to be well formulated. Its a long story but I have measured fasting serum insulin, postprandial bg, A1C, ketones etc. for over 5 years. When you get it right, your body can and will consistently run in nutritional ketosis - typically between 2 and 4 mmol, regardless of the length of time in ketosis and high intensity workouts .
