The reason why many gymnasts retired after the olympics and didn’t go on to college gymnastics is because the NCAA had a strict policy where athletes that accepted sponsorships or compensation were barred from competing at the collegiate level. One of The most notable gymnast to find conflict with was Olympian Jordyn Wieber. Before attending UCLA she accepted a sponsorship. She was able to become a student coach but was barred from competing herself.
