Thanks for the informative and honest review, Jason. So far I've kept myself away from official Auchentoshan bottlings because of the poor presentation: low ABV, chill-filtration, caramel coloring. I was hoping to find reasonably priced independent bottling to get to know this whisky. 13 yo Auchentoshan, bottled at 46%, non chill filtered and natural colour, matured in a quality ex bourbon cask would have been a perfect treat. Instead they are giving us this abomination of a whisky. What a shame! What's next? Carbonated, extra dark, sherry cask extract? I wonder who had made the call on this one. Was it the Luenings or Signatory Vintage. But then again it's a store pick so somebody at whisky.de actually had the final word...

Your take on the old and new Auchentoshan Triple Wood is interesting... I didn't like the older bottling, but the more recent one fires on all eight for me...

@@WhiskyJason1 The combination of flavors just gave me a couple of off-putting dry red wine notes, if I rtly on my memory... It's been a while.

Every time a new batch of releases comes out from Signatory, Adelphi etc...the Coca-Cola colored ones are always the first to sell out. People still believe in "darker = better".... Leaves more of the normal bottles for us😉

That Signatory Auchentoshan was matured in Taiwan in a very wet cask? LOL

I think they are making EXTRA dark sherry just for cask seasoning

LOLLL... For a second there I thought Signatory Vintage had just released a 2007 Pinot Noir. So sad that finishes have become (for some) a way to cover up initial bad cask maturations. I've shied away from Auchentoshan knowing well that if I wanted a very good triple distilled single malt, I could turn to Bushmills, Tullamore DEW, Dingle et al...
