Just a reminder: last night the Minister for Emergency Management confirmed there was a 30 minute window between when Wayne Brown was told to declare the State of Emergency, and when he finally did so. This is in direct contrast to his repeated lines about moving quickly and waiting for the emergency staff to give him the go ahead. But also, if you live in Auckland and are complaining about him, don’t forget you had a 30% voter turnout. Y’all really made this man your problem for the next 3 years. Good luck boys!

Great point re voter turnout in Auckland. No one wanted to do anything but everyone is happy to complain after the fact!

Who is the guy in front of the interpreter? Because of him we can't see her or the others clearly, and his position there has given them very little space to move and speak. His constantly fiddling with his phone is very disruptive. It would have been good if the main camera man had told him to step back

Wayne Brown is easily 'baited' by reporters and responds with inappropriate comments like: "not having the luxury of worrying about one suburb". "those houses shouldn't have been there in the first place". He's a total rubbish communicator and needs to be dragged off by his deputy before he says anything else stupid!

Hipkin's would be well advised not to be seen in media events with Wayne 'too much rain' Brown. The recent media announcement was a poor look for Hipkin's, Wood and McAnulty standing like school boys alongside the very uncharismatic Auckland mayor. Adern would never have had this happen and would have had her own media 'stand up'. Brown has thus far shown he is a poor communicator and tends to get into a defensive mode very quickly. His look is 'rabbit in the headlights' and something Hipkin's would do well to distance himself from in future. Wayne Brown is an embarrassment.

The disrespect they're literally stepping in front of ministers of NZs Cabinet, including our Prime Minister. The head of Comms needs the chop. The Mayor needs a professional media liason who can prep him for these types of engagements. This is a shambles.

Wayne Brown's explanations are basically the dog ate my homework. No one told me what I was supposed to do. Just hearing the vague "I was in my office, communicating with professionals", I would not be surprised he had gone home early on a Friday of a long weekend.

If Wayne Brown had a better relationship with media from the day he became Mayor things may have gone smoother, right from communication to the public initially to discussing what went right and what went wrong now, it appears he took up office not realizing how much there is to the job, now it just looks like incompetence

Thank goodness Chris and the competent crew were there to cover for our … mayor. He comes across as confused in his speech and lacking in empathy. Loved that Chris said “shop normally” I hated that awful “shop normal” language. When the public vote to reduce costs it means reduced services. Consequences.

What is the Job of sea and rescue surely first port of call should go to them in flood situations it makes sense one because they have the rescue boats and the people who have been trained to do the Job it seems pride egos and money is man's ideas Instead of sending the right people for the right Job the pride of money always gets in the way of rescuing and saving people when these errors are corrected so will everything and one flow its called unity togetherness you don't need a degree to get understanding and you need wisdom in every decision making and there is only one who is able and it is not man what is the answer let he who has ears be quick to hear and eyes to see with clarity beyond their eyes here is a clue what is missing? what is our Nations Anthem Hello??? Thank you Amen 🙏

The Government is 100% accountable considering this happened last year, in west auckland. What has been done since then? Be careful what is said considering this is not the first time. Infrastructure is and has been inadequate which should be funded and implemented by the $30 billion dollars in equity in rates held by Auckland council. Super city my ass. Too many fingers in the pie that does not give back to the people whom pay to government what is only inadequate representation. Fix this now! The mayor said this event hasn't happened before! A lie!

Hopefully Mr Brown will put his big boy pants on now, and get on govt plans for the much needed water reforms. Or will he wait for another storm to reveal the total decrepitude of the drainage system he seems to think he can sort out himself.
@TomGreenMan
@TomGreenMan Жыл бұрын
3 Waters Reform won't fix a record rainfall event, short of replacing ALL stormwater pipes with 2m Dia ones, and even then, there's only so much that could be coped with in suburbs. Learn lessons of communication for next time. PS, the co-governance issue would also be HUGELY expensive too
