A couple of changes I don't like - when exporting, I now have to select to change metadata, and then re-select the export window to finally export. Can this be changed, so it goes directly to the metadata window, and then can be exported directly from there? Also, when exporting as mp3 at the highest settings, the exported file is changed, and always louder, by 0.6-1.0 dB (so if I have exported a track, limited to -0.1dB, when I import that track, it's clipping, going over by up to). 1dB Why?

Its pretty amazing considering its very simple/humble origin. When so many other audio editors were way over-priced or entered periods of under-development, Audacity filled the void. While initial progress was slow, since it pretty much did what it intended for, the last few years has seen such a rush of great new features and improvements that its become such a reliable staple for audio editing.

These features are really exciting. Audacity is almost a DAW. I don't know how far you guys are trying to expand in that specific direction but the addition of a piano roll would be basically all I need to fully replace all the stuff I do in a DAW with audacity now that it supports VST.

Incredible update! I think the next logical step would be nestable compositions (comps). So you can create a single clip out of several sub-clips that maintain editability. The next step after that would be instancing so you could duplicate that comp multiple time and editing it updates all the instances.

Long-time Audacity user and I have never been more excited about the direction of this tool than right now. One thing I would love to see is a more robust media library/browser! When I'm working on big elaborate projects such as an intricate podcast, or a song with a lot of different samples, I find it rather difficult to keep track of all of the files in my projects. The ability to preview sounds in Audacity would be a wonder, too. It'd go a long way to letting me do everything I want to do inside Audacity, rather than having a foobar window open to preview tracks with default file names off of an SD card. All that said, I can't wait to see what comes next!

An idea for the future: If you record live audio it would be nice if you could reduce the noise while recording with your PC. So you just record live, press a button and stay silent to get the noise level and then (if your PC is good enough) you could have a denoised recording right when you stop to record.
@BenedictRoffMarsh
@BenedictRoffMarsh Жыл бұрын
This really can't be done with anything approaching quality as: a) what is the noise to be removed? The human brain can move & adapt quickly enough to ignore what it doesn't wish to focus on, BUUUT can't actually tell useful human speech from swearing about politicians or even chipmunks doing it, as it has nothing approaching intelligence - which leads to "cheese grater". b) the other issue is of course time as any processing will add latency which makes the words hit the record head late - later than another track of audio which should be time synced. that is before we get into the increased crashiness that will be inevitable (see NVIDIA's attempts to do the very same). Bottom line, as a Mix Engineer who does this almost daily, record well which means managing your signal to noise and then you need less processing which results in a more engaging program for people who are suitably interested (in the content, not irrelevancies like how weirdly perfiectified things sound). :-)
@graceev
@graceev Жыл бұрын
That's noise removal, an existing function, but for post recording. You wouldn't want to do it before anyway, as you want to be able to isolate the noise to remove.

The solo button on the tracks doesn't work anymore after the upgrade. It doesn't mute the other tracks like it used to. Also can't join clips together by double clicking the lines anymore either. And I certainly miss the cut button being on the tool bar. I'm glad for the other upgrades, but not at the expense of the basic functionality that we are used to.
