Thanks you. I'm just starting to record my first audiobook and I'm learning how to use Punch and Roll in Audacity. Your video has explained everything perfectly. You are so right about the anxiety part. Before I had all the equipment to do this, I had to leave the booth to correct mistakes. Now I have everything in the booth and I can fix any mistakes I make. So the nervousness I had before is gone. I realized that right away. So I read a lot better and made few mistakes because I wasn't worried about being perfect. 😃😃

Just retired after 40+ years in radio where we used Adobe Audition (of course that's recently, after battling with splicing tape for years!). Now that I'm retired, I don't want to pay Adobe's subscription fees, so Audacity gets the job done for me just fine. This app has come a long way in the last few years! Thank you for the keyboard shortcuts you mentioned. I always used them when on air but now at home, they come in very handy, too! Getting established as an independent VO artist is turning out to be much harder than I expected, even with so much radio experience. I've signed up with a few VoiceOver websites, but so far, no nibbles. Any tips or leads would be much appreciated!

This video came up at random but it was actually very interesting. I've never heard of 'punch and roll', very useful!!

Any tricks to getting RMS dialed in for ACX ( using Audacity), also recommendation for “mesquito” in my recording. I’m brand new, excited and very appreciative of your videos.

This is a lifesaver video! Thank you! Quick question, do you have to use the mouse to hit the "stop record" button or is there a keyboard shortcut for this?
@AlisoCreekVoiceOver2 жыл бұрын
The space bar "toggles between Play and Stop. If you are Recording pressing the space bar stops the Recording. You do have to use the mouse to select where to punch in. So when you make a mistake the routine is: hit the space bar, select where to punch in, then press Shift-D. Best of success!

I'm laughing thinking back to my first VO job. It was at a professional studio and of course I made a lot of mistakes. The weird thing is the producer and studio engineer kept making me start again from the beginning of the sentence. They should've used punch and roll. Oh well it was the producer's money being wasted but still. 11 hours of studio time could've been significantly cut down
