Well, as someone who learnt to edit audio with chinagraphs and razor blades this is a brilliant run through of how to use Audacity. I was utterly baffled trying to go through the manual on my own, and you have made it come alive and appear so simple. Thank you, and I leave with a flourish to go to the editing machine!

I recorded for a few seconds. How do I start recording again at the beginning or in the middle, to replace a part? Every time I press record, it only starts recording at the end of where I've already recorded. I'm used to using GarageBand, and it was easy with that. I have to use Audacity now because a voiceover client needs higher resolution.

Audacity demystified in minutes. Excellent and appreciated. I'm baby-steps into content creation prioritizing the audio part (recorder/Mixpre, microphones et al) i.e. topics like working with time-sync'ed audio/video sequences, how to export audio and use with the recorded video sequences (ProRes) are not something I have seen much about in any hands-on video. Just a suggestion .. 🙂

Hi Mike, just downloaded your presets for audacity and they are amazing, thank you so much. I am recording on an ASUS Vivibook with a BOYA M1-PRO lav, for some reason I get clicking sounds during the audio recording (not mouth clicks). Clicks that will pop up during the recording whether I record in Audacity, Hindenberg or Audition. It can't be removed with any of the de-clicker plugins and very hard to remove at the end of every word or mid word. Any idea what I could do differently? Thank you 🙏

I note, however, that on my instalation I do not appear to have all the tools and effects that you appear to have on yours (I din't see the envelope tool you uses and under effects only have about twelve as opposed to the huge lot of them in your audacity . But how do you cut out a small clip and re-record that section, or move parts around? If I try to record from the beginning, it won't let me. It just starts recording at the end of what I've already done. I've always used GarageBand but a new client needs better audio quality, so I'm trying to figure out Audacity.
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 10 ай бұрын
To replace a section first select the portion you want to replace, hit "Delete" to remove it, then position the cursor where you'd like to start recording, and hit the "Record" button. To move parts around, use the "Time Shift Tool" to drag clips to your desired location. Transitioning from GarageBand might take a little getting used to but Audacity is a powerful tool once you get the hang of it!

When I load in the MME drop down thing isn't showing and I can't fix it, do you know how to show it?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 6 ай бұрын
You can try reinstalling Audacity or checking your device's audio input settings to ensure MME is selected as the default audio host to make the dropdown appear.

Very enlightening. I wonder if you could answer the following question: If I record a tune I composed, is it possible to hear it not me singing but performed by some musical instrument ? Electronic sound or any computer sound ? Thanks for your uploads.

It’s best to record the elements individually if you can so you can make whatever mix you want.

Hi I have started having problems with clipping and pasting on audacity using Windows 11 it has worked for a bout one year , how do I fix?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 10 ай бұрын
Clipping can be a gain issue so turn down your input device if you can in Windows controls or Audacity itself.

What a great tutorial! I've been using other software and websites, but your tutorial has been great and so easy to use. I do have a question...on my end, I have no sound when I attempt to record. I hear sound when I open a saved recording. Don't know what the problem may be. BTW, I use a Chromebook. Any ideas/suggestions?

Can I add ISRC codes and UPC codes to Metadata in WAV Files before exporting? If so, would these codes be recognized by DSPs?

F4 doesn't work on Windows 11 I can't click F4 and zoom with the mouse at all and then I can't drag that little green triangle at the top either it just creates a region for it to play back and forth in.

I have watched three tutorials on Audacity now and I find the platform nearly impossible. How do I slice my audio clips so that I can record a number of takes and choose just the pieces I want to make a whole song? I see no razor tool or anything of the kind. And how on earth do I get the scrubber to stay in place when I stop it? It jumps to hell and gone every time I stop and I can't figure out how to control it. How come the little hand grabber shows up some times and sometimes not and why does the envelope tool not work half the time? This program is the WORST.

Hi, thank you for this, I'm slowly getting my head round this! For someone reason, I don't have the 'project' function bar at the bottom? Any ideas why not? thyank you!
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Ай бұрын
Hi there, I'm glad you're finding the tutorial helpful! The 'project' function bar may not be visible if your Audacity window is not maximized or if it is hidden under other toolbars - try checking your layout settings or resetting the workspace to see if that helps.

What if you have 2 microphones like for a podcast can you select which track has each mic?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 3 ай бұрын
Yes, in Audacity, you can select which track corresponds to each microphone input by configuring your recording preferences in the software settings.

With multiple tracks within a project is it possible to have one track continuously looping without looping the second track concurrently? An example would be a looping ambient drone on one track to be looped and music on a separate track not to be looped.

Is there a way to manually type in the minute and second so you can copy a section?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Ай бұрын
Absolutely, Audacity allows you to manually enter the exact timestamp for a selection, making it easy to copy specific sections of your audio.

Mike, about 1:30 in your video you select MME, but my version 3.2.5 doesn't have that. Any suggestions? Actually I'm trying to check the audio to make it works from my VB-Virtual Audio Cable. That's what I need to do! Help!
