I've owned TB, Razer, Steel Series, Astro gaming headsets priced $150-300, and other headsets priced $500+ for music. The Audeze Maxwell is incredible. They're basically the perfect blend with little compromise. The 80hr battery life is INSANE - who needs two batteries (Steel Series) when a single charge overnight will probably last all week. Wicked Cushions are a must though - b/c the stock pads are too shallow.

I recently moved from the Hyperx Orbit (basically a rebadged Mobuis) to the Maxwell due to the bad build quality of the orbit/mobuis which is the worst that I've seen so far in the headphone world (and I have owned and tried to ALOT of headphones, both HIFI and gaming). With that said, I honestly think that out of the box the Orbit/mobuis in terms of tonality and bass performance sounds much better than the maxwell while the maxwell is much more detailed but very lean in the bass region, bright and a bit fatiguing IMO. So, I have been playing with the EQ in the audeze software for a while now attempting to make it sound rounder, warmer with punchier bass and I'm liking the results so far. Here is the EQ settings I'm using right now for both music/gaming which I recommend for everyone to give it a try : 32hz: -1db 64hz: 6db 125hz: 2db (or 1db) 250hz: -3db 500hz: -5db 1Khz: -2hz 2Khz: -2hz 4Khz: -3hz 8Khz: -5hz 16Khz: from -6db to -9 (your taste)

Bluetooth had some crackling and skipping in the audio. Don't know if that has been remedied by firmware updates. But the sound was so amazing I'm actually thinking about giving them another chance when they are discounted. Tried the wicked cushions but the only introduced more clamping. Hope they'll get a little loose and not clamp as much after some weeks of use. EDIT: Found them soon after this post at a nice discount. I've loved them since. Bought the Wicked Cushions again and a ZMF Co-pilot headband. The comfortability and audio is great. I seem to remember the audio being better the first time around (with the Xbox version) than now (PS). Tried with Dolby Atmos on my PC, and it's still not the same. @@xzay. It's both the best sounding and most uncomfortable headset I've ever used. You hear details in games and music you never heard before, the base is not overwhelming but precise, with some EQ it can get punchy without muddying the highs. BUT, and that's the reason I have returned it, it's HEAVY and have a huge amount of clamp. The stock pads are pretty shallow, so my ears touched the baffles. Aftermarket wicked cushions are not much better, they are deeper but significantly larger and with firmer internal material, so the headset clamps even harder. This clamp force, the weight of almost 600g with the WC pads and the isolation putting pressure on my inner heard made it quickly uncomfortable. I'd say give it a try, maybe it fits your ears/head well. Depending on where you live/where you buy it you might be able to return it.

What happens if you position the microphone arm's capsule farther away from the mouth? Will you get less of a proximity effect? I wanted a microphone that sounded like a studio condenser microphone, but microphones that attach to the boom arm or stand alone on top of the desk are stationary and I need to be able to move my head and body around from time to time. And of course, I could see myself using this headset for making/receiving phone calls, so having Bluetooth is great to have. The only limitation is I won't be able to use my studio equipment that uses XML for going from my hardware preamp, to expander/compressor/limiter, to my audio interface. I currently have a Samson SR860 headphone and Movo LV8-D omni-directional lavalier microphone.

I’ve tried this headset and I have to disagree about the imaging. You said imaging is great, but I tried this headset extensively and imaging is good at best, but not great. There are many other headsets out there that are miles better at imaging. Yes the overall sound quality is amazing and probably the best headset for that, but to me they’re more aiming at music listening for that and not gaming. It just happens to have very well tuned planar magnetic drivers that suits most games as well as music, but as someone who mostly plays FPS games, imaging is definitely not something I’d buy this headset for Well tuned SteelSeries Nova 7 is not far off in sound quality in games and it has great imaging and it’s literally half the price of the Audeze Maxwell

Sound is awesome, software and EQ are great and battery life is just another level, had zero bugs on these. But I just couldn't wear them comfortably for more than 45min. They are heavy and sturdy. I also used the wicked cushions, they are plush but add even more weight. Couldn't just get happy with these comfortwise. And the planar sound is just a bit "too clean" in some games what killed the immersion a bit to me. I changed to the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro which is not on par soundwise, has lower battery life (2 swappables), but has also really decent drivers with impactful bass and is just total fun im games. It has also a great EQ, is comfy and has great ANC which helps you get immersed completely. Equally important is the horrific mic, it's just bad. Like, really, really, really bad. I have $20 web cams with better mics. I have no idea how they can make a high end headphone with a mic this bad. I got the Xbox version so it will not work with my PS5, I blame Sony which *STILL* hasn't added Bluetooth headphone support. Overall I would _not_ recommend these headphones to anyone unless you _only_ care about excellent wireless audio while only sitting in a chair in your house and you never want to adjust anything and you don't need to speak to anyone. So, again, they're meh. They don't, technically suck but they're not far off from it. With how much I hate everything about these headphones the one thing I love is the amazing wireless audio, I decided to keep them just for that amazing mobile audio that I only use around my house when I want headphones. And I would doubly not recommend these till they make them universally compatible, no more of this BS PS or Xbox only nonsense. Just make them work.

Great review, thanks. But i did not find here detailed info about spatial sound experience. Does this headset support some kind of virtual surround in any Games? Or does surround work only with Atmos supporting games and just in Stereo mode in all others? For example Logitech Pro X has DTS:X virtual surround, and works absolutely with any games, movies as well. There are quite a few games with native Atmos support. Also, Cant find info on how many surround channels it supports - 7.1, 9.1. Would be great to clarify it. Thanks!
@Necronomous
@Necronomous 7 ай бұрын
Sorry for late answer but the Maxwell's are stereo headphones. Well, almost every gamingheadset out there are stereo headsets acctually. It is due to the software you can get 7.1 surroundsound in them. Very rare that gamingheadsets are native 7.1 surroundsound that's because they would get very heavy to wear. I tested my Razer Blackshark V2 PRO with both Dolby Atmos and the THX 7.1 surround and yeah, the THX that these was built for gives a little bit more clarity to the surround, but Dolby Atmos wasn't far behind at all. Audeze Maxwell however are built for Dolby Atmos so these will be more accurate with the surround than the Razwer Blackshark V2 PRO for example. Everything will work with all games. Just that some games will work better because they are configured to the absolute perfection to follow the software that gives the surroundsound. Then you shall know that Dolby Atmos are developed to work with ALL headsets with stereo and ain't locked to a specific software like many of these gamingheadsets are. As I mentioned, sure it say 7.1 on another headsets but they often ain't 7.1 native. It is the software that gives them the 7.1 surroundsound. They made some with native 7.1 as I said, they where damn expensive and very heavy to use and it was complicated asf to make the speakers to work properly as a true 7.1 surroundsystem in the headset because of the limited space to build it in. So this native surroundsystem in gamingheadsets etcetera was scrapped. Instead it was better to get bloody darn good stereospeakers with a bloody darn good software that mimics 5.1, 7.1, 9.1, one billion point 1 or whatever. It was more cheap, less weight and the troubles with setting each speaker so it sounded perfect as a native 7.1 disappeared.

So for the audio that sounds like star wars sounds..... I think that is when you have sidetone on and the sound reflects off of a surface and the microphone picks up those and it kinds goes back and forth until it is high pitched... If I have side tone off and get close to like the table or something it won't happen. Then with the discord on your phone thing, wouldn't it be better to use discord on your computer because when you use the dongle you get 2 audio outputs so you could have the game as 1 and discord as the other, that way you can use your volume slider between the two and still hear both?

@@OlavJ Yes. audio quality is fantastic. Im not a huge audiophile, but the EQ works fine for what i like. battery life is not an issue a little heavy though. the leather strap isnt great. it may just be a me thing but it hurts my head on the very top because of the way it sits. i know there are thing you can buy to replace it like with a silicon strap or something. the cushions are good at isolating noise, but get a little hot and sweaty. These can also be replaced with something like the wicked cushions for more breathability and cooling, but may impact the isolation a bit. the rules on simultaneous audio are a little annoying sometimes, but i have no reference for other headphones with simultaneous audio. best Tl;dr I can give, is that I get angry when I have to listen to music or something with a different headphone/audio source

This headset is great, build and sound quality. BUT, if you're worried about mic quality and playing with friends it can be pretty bad. If you're not playing with friends then its not a problem. Sidetone is also annoying as hell with the hiss and crackling. Another thing, if you're sensitive to weight, its very heavy for a headset. Ive also heard overtime the left and right channels will just give up. Mine were unbalanced from the start.

As someone who has been using the Arctis Pro Wireless for several years, I thought it was time to upgrade and I came to the Audeze Maxwell. I gave it a try, and after 3 days, I will be returning them. The Maxwell headset had this annoying thing where it took 15 seconds to connect to my PC each and every time I turned it on. And secondly, I felt that this headset wasn't even much of an audio improvement over the Arctis Pro Wireless. Third, the wireless range on the Maxwell is absolutely horrible. With the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, I can walk halfway across my house before my headset loses signal, and upon returning back to my PC, it will automatically connect back to give me audio. With the Audeze Maxwell, one I leave my room, the headset already loses signal and then disconnects from my PC, which is annoying because reconnecting it will take another 15 seconds after I turn it off and back on.

Yes I gave my steel series wirlesss 350$ to my little brother and bought the Audeze Maxwell the audio n everything is better only flaw is the headset is a little heavy and can give eararch or head pressure pain when gaming for a long time but despite that if you don’t have a sensitive head your winning and going to completely love the headset those boomy 90mm planar drivers are OP compared to the baby 40mm drivers on the steel series.

@Hardware Canucks I watched your reviews and i'm torn between 2 models that works on both Xbox and Playstation, The Audeze Maxwell and the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro. I mainly play FPS games online but still some single player games. Music and Bluetooth phone calls are not important for me. I have 2 concerns about the Maxwells: First is the Comfort because they're over 500 grams, and second is the imaging or footsteps location ability compared to the Stealth Pro. I would say that i bought the Turtle beach 700 gen2 max and returned them the same day, the sound and build quality were terrible so i'm afraid to buy another Turtle beach headset. Any help would be greatly appreciated! SUBBED!
