Audi A3 SERVICE LIGHT RESET (oil)

In this video I show you how I reset the oil service warning light on an Audi A3 1.6 TDI 2010.
This video does not show you or imply that the service INSPECTION light can be reset in a similar way. The service inspection light on this vehicle can only be (to the best of my knowledge to date) reset through the OBDII connection to a suitable device or software (such as VAG-COM or VAG dealers). many other variant VW/Audi cars in this year and later do have the independent function to reset the inspection service yourself which is very helpful, but apparently not this particular model.

I work on a lot of VAG vehicles and the service light can sometimes be extinquished by the above method if it has only been on for a very short time, if not then you will have to use a scanner

Interesting, thanks for sharing that, I have never known about that or tried that. If that works then this model of AUDI A3 OWNER NEED TO ACT FAST WHEN THEY SEE THE SERVICE LIGHT ON.

@@HatBoyHarvey Also depending if it has been set on a VAG scanner for long services then it will have to be reset, any "decent" scanner will do it you don't have to use a VAG one.

On my 2012 facelift 8P A3 this works to reset the oil reminder but not the service indicator which is the annoying prompt one. Such a shame really to program the car in a way that irritates the user into visiting a dealership.

This is true, the service/service can only be done through OBD2 port. There are vagcom owners that may offer to do this for you for free if you want to avoid the dealer cost. Have a look on the various vag forums for possible local links :-)

I have a 2009 Audi A3 1.4tfsi , tried the sequence in your video , but the spanner appears again? And the service warning on ignition.

Unfortunatly the service reset for SERVICE is only able to be done by OBD2 port/VAG compatable software. This video is for (OIL) as stated in the title. If you know someone with vagcom they will be able to clear the service/service warning:-)

that will be the inspection service which you need a more advanced obd2 code reader to cancel on this specific model :-(

Turn on - pull right knob once - let go - wait for service indicator to light up - pull and hold - done - switch off - then on

But you only reset the oil change notice not the service notice?

Yes, it says that in the title. To reset the service 'inspection' unfortunately on this specific car model you have to use OBD2 device to reset this which is unfortunate. Other modes do allow user resets. I don't know why Audi do this :-/

It only changes OIL not the inspection service. unforntunaly this particular car needs OBD2 software to change that :-(

Unfortunatly this only works for the oil service as in the title, not the inspection service on this particular vehicle. The inspection service has to be done with an OBD2 diagnostics tool. I'll try it out with my Kingbolen ediag in the near future to see how that fares :-)

Unfortunately Audi has designed some of it's more modern cars like this. We can only reset the service light for the oil warning as mentioned in my description, bummer I know. I haven't found a way of doing this without an OBD2 scanner tool yet. Some have said you can do it by putting the hazards on when resetting, but that didn't work for me. I'll let you know when I find a method.

HatBoyHarvey I have 2010 2.0T. Your instrument panel and that oil service wrench is exactly like mine. However, doesn’t work. I asked Audi Service and they said it has to hooked up to their computer for a diagnostic run in order to reset it. Seems like everyone else isn’t working either

It will only work for oil on this model. The inspection service will need an OBD2 tool to reset it unfortunately. Other Audi models do allow you to do it, but not this one, which is really annoying :-/
