hi mate im looking at a 2010 model 170bhp if i remove dpf would the issue go away

technically you need the dpf in for the mot as they check it, some people will cut open the dpf and smash the inside's out. You will then need to get it remapped to remove the dpf from the ecu. This is what i had done on my 2011 vw caddy. never had any issues after that. good luck with your search pal.

I'm thinking of getting one, dunno whether to get Manual or automatic and whether or not to get 140 or 170. I want one which I can live with around town and least problems.

personally i would go for dsg over manual, spend more time sat in traffic these days and the dsg is tuneable... 140 is probably the most reliable out of the 2 as there is no dpf to go wrong, there very costly to replace.. i suppose it come down to getting a good well looked after model. good luck in your hunt for a new car ;)
