Thanks mate for the video. Most of the videos on KZbin are using something to suck up the liquid from the reservoir which is stupid they don't get everything out.

Good info, thanks. Note if its all you can do then extracting the fluid with some type of pump (you can find one at most car parts stores) then that is better than nothing. But note that is mixing clean fluid with dirty fluid, so you might have to use 2-4 liters and probably would not be as clean as this method. Again way better than 10 year old mixed fluid sludge. If you can't jack up the wheels, cut 6 pieces of 12"x12" cardboard, stack them up in front of the tires (3 per wheel), drive the vehicle onto the cardboard. That way you may be able to muscle turn the wheels by hand. If You can't turn the wheels then use the extraction method. And you can start the vehicle and turn the wheel a few times. I had someone ask why not start the vehicle using the method in the video, and I think the answer is that the PS pump will quickly push the fluid through the lines and PS cooler and out the hose into the catch bucket/jug, but that is not getting fluid out of the rack. And use spec fluid. I don't care that the auto parts store guy tells you a fascinating tale about is grandpappy using Pepsi and cow pi_s_s as antifreeze in his 1978 Buick. Just use spec fluid. And note for example CHF 11S is basically aviation hydraulic, made to perform under extreme conditions. Last point- for spec fluids and parts check out Blauparts. I have no affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

wanted to see the detailed close up steps of clearing the way to get to the fluid well. the camera was off during those steps. ...and those clips and grommets are tricky ...and, was there something in the little enclosed chamber next to the reservoir ? there is in my audi.
@MostlyHelpful
@MostlyHelpful 10 ай бұрын
It's a shame I don't have a multi-camera setup for sure, but I am a car guy 1st and KZbinr 2nd so I haven't made it a priority. That enclosed chamber contains a small filter and apparently you can remove it (to clean it) which is something I should do certainly. Good luck with the job if/when you do it.

What did you use to get the clamp off the return hose on the reservior?
@MostlyHelpful
@MostlyHelpful Жыл бұрын
I can't remember, but I recall it not being hard so I suspect the factory clamp had already been removed and replaced with a jubilee clip - the type that you can undo with a screwdriver.

I see that the bracket that normally houses the brake booster vacuum pump is empty. I have the same situation in my 04 B6. Why it's empty? Don't they have brake booster vacuum pump at all? Or is it somewhere else in the engine compartment? Cheers
@MostlyHelpful
@MostlyHelpful 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ard, thanks for your question. My brake booster is under the scuttle panel to the right of the battery as you look at the engine. I don't know where the vacuum pump is though - could it be run off the auxiliary belt?

For about 6 months yes, but after that it came back. I think there is another issue somewhere, probably the reservoir based on other things I've since seen.

Scusa la domanda per misurare il livello deve essere Chiuso il tappo solo appoggiato
@MostlyHelpful
@MostlyHelpful 4 ай бұрын
Sì, per misurare il livello il motore deve essere spento e il coperchio ben chiuso. Quindi riempire fino a quando il livello non mostra "max". Yes, to measure the level the engine needs to be off and the lid on tight. Then fill until the level shows at "max".

You do not need to go to Audi dealer for power steering fluid you can get the same thing at any car shop Audi trusted I've been there never will agian they are the biggest con ever
@MostlyHelpful
@MostlyHelpful 2 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, although it depends where you live. The simplest way to ensure that you are using the right thing is to get it from Audi and while it may cost a little bit more, in the grand scheme of things the difference is irrelevant. Here in the UK that difference is about £5 saved. Get it wrong though and it can cost plenty.
