Audi A4 B8 - How to change Xenon headlight bulbs

Quite complicated, but there are many cars that have it even worse, so this is at least doable at home.

Thanks for the info! Very useful! Quick question, around 4:00 : It's really really hard to right turn it back to the position, I merely make it 80 degree turn only (just managed to tighten it a bit). Any tips to turn it back to the correct position? I'm out of strength while doing this...

Not really sure what to say. It was also hard for me to rotate it in place, but still doable.

If you can’t tighten it as it should, you probably bought a wrong model, there are a lot of xenon bulbs and they look so similar that you won’t see any difference, but when mounting them they won’t fit your car. Compare it with you old bulb and see if they are identical

Hmm...I don't trust aftermarket LEDs. If there is no OEM variant I recommend against it. The danger of blindind incomming traffic is too high in my opinion.

I bought sline xenon headlight units to replace the se halogen lights but the connector seems too small for the unit. Do you think they are incompatible?

I don't remember if the electronics are included in the headlights or that also might need to be changed. Search on forums for this upgrade. Also, do you have headlights washer and automatic leveling on your car? Otherwise it's illegal to have xenon.

I have an issue with removing right (driver's POV) headlight since there is a tube connected to the headlight that does not allow me to take the headlight out. Any suggestions? Car specs: Audi A4 Avant B8 2012, factory halogen lights.

Hey, I replaced my bulbs today, but on the left side, the beam seems to be a bit misaligned from the left side. Could it because the bulb is not screwed in at the right "orientation"? I think the stick on the left side might have been slightly tilted when I tightened it

I've heard people have had a big electric shock from these is there no procedure to disconnect the battery or anything?

I have no clue about that. Maybe they left the key in the ignition? There should be no power at the bulbs when the car if off. But then again, with modern cars who knows anymore.... If you want to be sure, disconnect the battery.

Welcome! D3S has electronics on it and D2S does not. I think they are also using different voltages.

You need to compare the specifications of the bulbs.

Impossible for me to know, sadly, as I bought the car with the old bulbs on it, so they were already weaker when I first saw them. Can't compare an old bulb with a new one. Try to search for this info on forums, maybe someone did a test.

@@UltimateDIY my really question is: is more white and "cooler" OEM Philips Xenarc 4300k or Osram Original 4150k? I see that many car have in factory the philps bulb..and they looks grate...but i dont know wich buy between philips and osram

4300k is cooler, but at that point it actually might begin to be more blue actually. For driving in rain for example the 4150k is a better bulb as it's not so blue. Blue light is really bad in rain conditions.

La facelift nu stiu sa iti spun si nu are rost sa incerc sa ghicesc. Poti incerca sa cauti pe forumuri. Ar fi pacat sa cumperi ceva dupa sfatul meu si apoi sa nu se potriveasca.

What to do if you still have an error on the computer that the left does not function? I have replace both xenon bulbs, drove for it with for two weeks without error but all of a sudon the error apears again..... removed the bulbs and left ballast

No. Don't use LED retrofit kits, as they are crap and not fit for public road use.

Sadly does not work on B8 RS4. There are extra screws that need removing to loosen it. But then wriggling it out is impossible as the light fitting protrudes underneath. Physically will not fit through the space. :(

I actually was able to squeeze my hand and change the bulbs with removing the lamp assembly. I uploaded a video on my channel. Oblast than 5 minutes.

Sorry, but you needed to remove the air box, so no squeezing was required. I don't see a real advantage in doing it like that. It's still not as easy as it should have been made by the manufacturer with a better design.

One additional comment to anyone trying this. Be careful when disconnecting the electrical connector from the lamp housing. You’re looking to use a screwdriver to press down the clip whilst jiggling the plug out. I stupidly tried to lever the connector out and broke the clip 😭

@@IrregularTangent If you have 2013 B8.5 model with this part number (8K0 941 005 [DRL looks like ""]) on your headlamp, Yes this method is similar (almost identical) except the housing is little different, but you might be able to figure it out fast.

Just had this done for my 2013 A4 by the dealership. They replaced one bulb for almost $500. They told me the bulb itself cost $290, and the job required one hour of labor. Yeah, I know they screwed me. :-(

True, but also not true. I needed to remove the air box for a different problem. Had a big problem with getting it back in place. The rubbers under it just din not want to fit back in position. Had to use some grease on them.
