I was amazed watching a video that showed it was easier to put shoes on drums by putting the springs on the shoes first and using the bottom footing as a pivot to lever them into place.

I sold my Mondeo and brought a Audi B8, nightmare! now I need to change the upper control arms, I took it to a garage and they refused to work on it because of the pinch bolt, maby you would take on this job, you make it all look so easy 👌

I would've put the grease in the inner joint instead of the boot end.

Just did this on my B7, so glad I didn't follow the forums and take the suspension apart, especially right after an alignment. So much room in the 2.0T to just drop it out. I broke the axle bolt and the driveshaft bolts with the vehicle on the ground. There's actually enough room to just do it from under the hood.

Great video ,easier than most cars ,also grease the inner plates where the shaft connects to the gearbox saves them bonding together with rust 👍

Sorry Alan I watched a video right before yours on an A6 driveshaft removal and it was a pig to remove from the gearbox with rust hence the reason I suggested the grease 😉 😀

Grat job. Looks like grease was mixed with water &/or wrong grease used. Service Manual says wrap electrical or other tape over splines before slide boot(s) on to prevent micro cuts in boot.
@malcolmdown91702 жыл бұрын
I would assume the grease is diluted with water and that’s why it’s that colour. Maybe should have cleaned it all off .

Done the same job, except the drive shaft bolts snapped on re-tighten apparently one time use but sometimes you can get away with it (and yes I used a torque wrench) and those hub nuts are stretch nuts 😁 made me almost puke doing it up.

Thanks for this, in my case the releasing of the torx bolts on the driveshaft end near the gearbox resulted in the casing still staying on the gearbox and I had to pull the knuckle out of the casing, Is there an reason for the casing/part where the knuckle sits in to to remain in place even after all the torx bits have been removed?

@markmawson12 жыл бұрын
And to seperate the outer cv joint off the shaft just screw the cv bolt back into the outer cv and wind it all the way in and it squeeze the locking circlip through the cv joint and then you can tap the joint off. As for the inner joint i squeeze the cv grease into the receiver cup then when you knock the bearings back into cup it gets straight to the 3 rollers and their needle roller bearings and then you don't have to contend with handling the boot with it full of grease while getting it back on the cup.
