My dad got me the 2010 Audi A4 Prestige model about 2 days ago for my first car. It is a very fast and luxurious car and that is what I love about it.

Why would you prefer it over a c300? I have a B7 A4 and am thinking about upgrading to a B8. I test drove one and it is way to big, and not sporty at all. This is why I am thinking about the c300 with a v6. More power over all. Correct? Thanks!

We would be open to hearing what you think the show should be. All the cars we drive fall under our specific criteria of Less than $45k to buy, and interesting to drive and own. Well, We will acknowledge that both the A4 we tested and the 328i are the base-entry level models. If someone stretched to get into them they may be disappointed as they base models don't live up to the hype. We love the S4, like the 335i, and think the M3 is amazing but above the shows price-range. Our 328i review was before we did our ratings at the end. Both Paul and Todd would rate it higher than the A4.

For sportiness, you're correct, post the B7 (up to 2008) the car got heavier and boxier and more like a Japanese car. I recently bought a B7 vintage and passed on newer versions priced similarly. The thrill was gone in the newer car, and there are probably some exceptions to what I'm saying, this is a general observation comporting with yours.

when i was looking to buy my first car i was looking for 2000 to 2004 A4 but when i was checking online i came across about 3 sellers who were practically giving them away because they all had problems going into reverse. is this a common problem with those years?

I think that dynamically, they're on pair. Check out Motortrend's A4 Avant review. It managed some impressive numbers with the base engine. Plus S4 has got better awd system than 3-series. Buying the 335i would be very unwise when its replacement which is rumoured to be quite revolutionary is coming.

Fifth Gear only compared 335i to S5 which had older AWD system withough individual torque vectoring. Personally, I'd wait for the next 3 series coming in 2012.

I test drove one of these both in Quattro and FWD and I have to agree totally with the reviewers: the steering does NOT give any confidence at all. It is lighter than my Altima, Maxima, and Lancer. Everything else is SUPERB though: interior comfort, gadgetry, exterior design, the engine's torquey-ness (fuel-economy), and the suspension bump absorption. Buy one if you want a comfortable daily driver!

@BrianDewy My dad's got one of these. I'm 6'4 and I can comfortably fit in the rear seat. If you don't service any car as scheduled, the car will have major problems. Gutless? The fact that it's faster than a bmw 328xi and the mercedes c300, considering they're both V6's, this car is pretty gutsy. -Liam

There are no words about the space inside on fornt and back seats, trunk size, control of the buttons or air conditioning, comfort of the seats, getting in and out, comfort on a long drives, bumpy roads....... this review is same useless like Danone Actimel. :D BTW Audi is soooo good!!

The B8's are nice, but I still perfer the B7 (07-08). The reason being is the B8 is bigger. If I wanted a sedan this big, I would have bought an A6! Anyway you cannot beat that kick butt 2.0T in the B7 and B8!

Theres nothing wrong with the car. It's perfect. I test drive these cars for fun and let me tell you that it feels amazing to drive. Perfect balance between Luxury, comfort and sportiness. The way cars should be made.

@BrianDewy The HSV Clubsport is $59,990, and does 0-60 in 4.9seconds, the 2010 audi s4 is $54,500CAD, and does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. German V6s compete with aussie v8s. the audi's a better steering, better looking, better quality car.

it's cheaper and quicker, as proven by fifth gear. but, i think if i were going to compare the m3 to the s4, i'd get the s4. i think the m3 is too brash and in your face despite being an incredible driver's car. i like the s4 and 335i's understatement. they can rip your face off with acceleration and cornering forces, but nobody else will be able to tell at first glance.

if "powerful and precise" is your standard, why are you using an automatic as your test car? manual cars should be the basis for any analysis around these concepts as well as "driver involvement". when you include fuel consumption, I think the A4 beats out the 3 series any day of the week.

@BrianDewy I check the prices there, THEY CHARGE AN EXTRE $15000 for some BS "luxury car" tax. We don't have anything like that in canada. For us, the Audi R8 (basic v8 coupe) costs about $140,000. You guys are getting screwed with those prices.

The guy with the long hair's criticism seems to based on the wrong premise. He's evaluating the car as if it was trying to be a sports sedan (aka BMW 335i), which it does not. It's an entry level luxury car. On that basis, I think that the other driver's comments are more valid

What you have to understand is these dudes drive a LOT of cars. (sweet job) They will nitpick every little detail in the vehicle. My advice? Take these reviews with a grain of salt and go test drive the vehicle yourself and see how it feels. As far as maintenance and longevity of operation goes, this class of vehicle will run forever if properly taken care of.

that's because the awd in the 3 series wasn't engineered for the 3 series. it's nicked from the x3, and sold exclusively in the american market because americans have a ludicrous idea that a 4wd system is essential if there's a drop of rain, and makes the handling a million times better... sure, 4wd can help in the rain, and in some cars, 4wd does make for incredible handling. but the 335xi has over 300 lbs more weight.... i'd get the 335(rwd)i over the audi s4.

if you actually drive a 3 series bmw you will see exactly what he is talking about. the previous A4 were nothing but trouble 2004 to present. they were slow, cheaply made, and alot of the electric components failed. windows, radio, sun roof etc... BMW builds much stronger cars then audi.
