Dude, you really are the best resource on the internet for my 2008 A6 3.2 BKH. Thank you! I was trying to remove my upper coolant pipe - there was nothing in Bently, nothing on the internet - found it here in your video. You are much appreciated.

This repair (separator replacement) currently underway in my garage...on 2008, and yes, it's a bit different. Will update. About to remove coolant pipe to heater, then separator should come out without too much trouble. Video is great help, thx.

Hello, I have a 2007 A6 (C6) 3.2…. Do you have part numbers for the work your doing? Any special differences from this vid and your car? ❤
@estomax Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, this greatly simplified the job on my 2007. Newer cars (2007 and up) have the PCV/oil separator combined in one, and mine broke, which started sucking oil into the intake at a rate of 1 quart per 300 miles. i would have smokey startups and thought my valve steam seals were going, luckily it was just this and it took me about 4 hours to do the job. Make sure you drain the coolant! I neglected to pay attention that there were coolant lines in this thing and got coolant everywhere (including in my oil). So had to do an oil change too. The PCV just barely fits out of the valley, you cant disconnect some of the injector plugs since the fuel rail gets in the way, but everything that comes off easily can be removed and then the pcv/separator comes out.

Did this resolve the issue or did other things have to be changed for the smoking out of the exhaust?
@Kokouvia Жыл бұрын
@@performancenl I replaced the oil separator mostly because of the smoke. The smoke did not stop.

Did you need any other gaskets or parts when doing the job? I have the pcv/separator and gasket but should I need to replace anything else gasket related? (2007 A6 C6 3.2)

Is the oil seperator known for leaks at the engine block? Because of a leaking gasket? Great video's btw m8! Helping a lot of people, including me💪🏼
@Kokouvia Жыл бұрын
Yes. And when it happens, you will see coolant traces in engine oil or engine oil traces in coolant.
@dennisvermeer8689 Жыл бұрын
@@Kokouvia Luckily I don't have both. But I have some coolant loss, and engine oil loss. Have to fill it much more than normally. Already replaced the leaking vacuum pump. Next step is a new thermostat housing, and I was thinking of changing the gasket of the oil seperator too. Because I thought it could leak coolant to the outside too
@Kokouvia Жыл бұрын
@dennisvermeer8689 Not unlikely that coolant and oil would leak into the intake system to be burned, but I am not sure.

What symptons can I expect when the oil separator is bad...My car has done 145000 miles. It is a lot of work doing without knowing it is bad. Your video was, as always, very good. Kind regards Martin from the Netherlands
@Kokouvia Жыл бұрын
The oil separator rarely fails. It is usually the PCV valve which goes bad. On my car the oil separator and PCV valve are two separate units. On some other cars, it's one single unit which means when the pcv valve fails you have to either remove the whole unit to replace the valve, or replace the whole unit. The most common oil separator problems are leaks which would cause coolant to mix with your engine oil. It's very rare on the 3.2. Even the PCV valve rarely fails because the internal pressure is not high. The bottom line, don't worry about it. I replaced mine only as preventive maintenance and by pure curiosity.

@@Kokouvia Thanks for your answer, I will leave my oilseparator in peace for now, or may be for ever.

I have the same 3.2 engine, but for some reason it smokes a lot at high speeds and oil rises through the oil trap into the intake manifold; at low speeds everything is fine. What could this be? Tell me please
@Kokouvia10 ай бұрын
Where is the smoke coming from? The engine bay or the exhaust?

exhaust
@Kokouvia10 ай бұрын
@mishasx2504 If it is not white smoke, you may need an engine rebuild. Could be piston rings or valve stem seals. I had that issue for about a year and replaced a lot of parts the oil separator included to no avail. I was thinking about replacing the valve stem seals, but I scrapped the car before I could.

What was your reason for changing the separator? I'm just wondering because my 3.2L is at 215k miles and I have a list of things that need to be done.
@Kokouvia Жыл бұрын
Just preventive maintenance. No real reason. I had the replacement part since a few months and went in there to replace the oil filter housing the previous day. The next day I decided to replace the oil separator as well because I was bored 😅
