My knowledge of US series is lacking, was this considered a 'goldern era' of IMSA, how does this compare to DTM?

Some of the best cars came from this class like the Audi and the Ferrari F40 LM. They were fast, loud, and made the best turbo chirps ever! The biggest hit in the series was the ban of the Audi because of its AWD system it used so it flew around corners way too fast and was winning every race. Following Ferrari and the F40 LM never returning back to an IMSA GTO Race.
