Have you stayed out of the dealer from just having some fun? Just got my 18’ RS3 (50k mi) and am learning the Technology Pkg. settings and a lot about this car! Has Sport pkg with staggered wheel fitment. Now realize what a pain it will be rotating the tires 😮 planning to get them squared (all the same width; 235/3519) with Michelin Pilot Sport 2s week after next! Great websites and FB Groups out there to join to learn things like this - that replacing the ft 255/35 tires with 235/35s on the wider 8.5J rims will be no problem for any features of the cars computer. For example: Audizine, Audisport and any well populated RS3 owner groups. Happy motoring from W Michigan ❤

Older versions had a limit of 200 launch controls in order to save the transmission system. But if you have 2017 a4 that is B9 model.. Your car has a torque converter transmission, and that's a new system that has no limits for launch controll.. so you can do it as much as you want, but pay attention on oil temp. Don't do it if oil temp is below 80°C because you put a lot of torque and force on engine so engine needs to ne warm before you do it.

Happened to me few times while racing on traffic lights 😅 You get good results even if esc is not in sport, but for best performance just click it :)

I’ve never tried it by long pressing the ESC button, I’ve only pressed it once to put it in Sport mode… what advantage/disadvantage is there to turning off ESC completely?

From what I know, to perform launch control you need to turn off ESC completely. I don't change anything (For launched control, not car driving), its some kind of "protection" for Audi company from unpredicted car behavior. For example if you crash your car because you slided or smth like that, they can say that you disabled you ESC and you get a warning about that on dashboard.

I'm not sure if this model is equipted with launch control system. But you can do a similar thing called brake boosting. Hold brake all the way down and hit the accelerator, when you hit high RPM, release brake. You can do that if car has automatic transmission.

I tried exactly the same to start like this on my S3 8v FL 2017, but tachometer stoped on 1000 while breaking. Cant make 3000-4000. Any ideas?

Make sure you put your car in sport mode, disable autohold function and that your gear selector knob is in drive. If you try to do this while selector knob is in neutran (N) you will get what you described --> rpm will rise and rapidly fall to 1000 rpm and that's because rev limiter. Let me know if you made it.

Try holding the traction control button down for a few seconds. That will disengage traction control entirely. Should work.

As far as I know, your car has S tronic transmission so with that, you should be able to do it, because Audi manual says that cars with S tronic have launch control. Be sure to warm up the engine before you try it. Enjoy 😁

Every model but not every year.. only the newer dual clutch transmission like in the c7 a6 or the b8 s4. I have a c6 and it has the older transmission right before they started throwing the dsg trans. The older ones like mine aren't tuneable like the new ones. Nor can I launch it 😒

Yup it should work. If you don't have boost indication, just hold it untill you reach 3500 rpm and then release brake

Yeah, you can do it. Buttons for drive select and ESC may be on different position and I'm not sure that A6 has boost indicator but the process is the same. Hold brake pedal, smash the accelerator pedal and when rpm reaches 3000-3500, you release brakes and take off.

@@supie5063 not sure if A8 has Sport/Dynamic setting on drive select. But you do same thing. 1. Set ESC to Sport or off 2. Hold brake all the way down than hit the accelerator pedal fully forward. When RPM reaches 4k, release brake pedal and enjoy! And 1 other thing, not sure if A models are equipted with what some people call "real launch control". If not, this is called brake boosting. But you get similar results. Try it out and let me know how it went.

Aa far as I know you should be able to do it if you follow the steps from vid. Also I checked in user manual, and it says that cars with S-tronic transmission have it.

Bro, you forgot one step!! Idk how everyone forgets this step lol. You need to hold the esc button for 4-5 seconds turns esc off, then launch the car and you will see the difference. Also for b9 b9.5 s4/rs4/s5/rs5 don't hold the launch control for more than 5 - 6 seconds.. It will automatically cut it off plus thats hard on the transmission. For b9/b9.5 a4/a5 with dct(dsg) same steps just make sure to hold the esc button for 4-5 seconds.. It will hold the rpm at 3k and it will bounce off it.

I'm not so sure that you should turn ESC completely off. Just press it once so you got ESC sport. When you do launch control you need maximum traction and if ESC is off you might lose some traction and therefore some acceleration.

@@Vukage S5 B9 has ZF 8-HP. So instead of DSG, it has torque converter. And this allows for as many launch controls as you want. So no limit :)

I have a 2024 S5, and the user manual says clear as day that launch control is for "RS models only". I've still tried the procedure, and it launches REALLY fast, but I'm very worried that we're totally fucking our torque converters by doing this, because the S5 does NOT have launch control, there has never been an S5 with a tiptronic transmission that had launch control.

I didn't know that.. In my user manual they wrote that cars with Stronic transmission have Launch control, and there is described process on how to do it, like I did in video. Do you get same time results with doing launch control and with just smashing the gas pedal from standstill?

Hey I got an audi A3 2019 S tronic 150 hp. But it wont launch for some reason? I put it in Dynamic mode, Shift it in S, Foot on the brake, Steer straith, Start/stop off, and traction control off. It only gets up tot 1500 rpm and then it stops revving and I already feel that the car want to roll while my foot is still on the brake. Somebody knows it?

That sound strange. So it goes to 1500rpm and after that rpm starts to drop while you still hold your foot on pedal? One more thing, don't forget to turn off auto hold function if you have it in your car (next to parking brake button, it has lette A on it), because it messes with launch control.

@@TNT_Creations Yes I have it in my car but when I start the car it is standard off. I did some more research. Maybe you need to put the gasspedal all the way down fast when you want to rev up? So your car knows that you wanna launch the car? I found on the internet that some bmw owners had that problem and had to go instant full throttle before the launch. Don’t know if that is the same with Audi? I never launched any car before so I am quite new to this

First put your car in sport/dynamic, ESP off and after that push the clutch pedal all the way forward, then push your accelerator pedal all the way, wait for rpm to reach around 3500 and just put your foot off the clutch. Tell me if this works for you. Enjoy

@@mrjanik3 oh, somebody told me same thing a few months ago. I don't know if they started to install some kind of new revs limiter but that's bad. 1 option is if you decide to tune ECU and tell them to disable that limiter.

I don't think this is actually launch control. You just have a transmission with torque converter, which doesn't let the engine to fly away, but it let's you to rev it until around 3000 rpm. Proper launch control also opens the powertrain, and releases the clutch more quickly. You also did not turn the ESP off, and you did not get the launch control activation message on the dash, which also indicates that this was not a proper launch.

Torque converter has a bypass clutch wich can directly connect engine to the gearbox. It monitors engine speed and gearbox speed while providing torque multiplication and it is installed in more and more new cars, because of its efficiency and advantages over older transmissions. Another thing, in older versions of owner manual, in launch control description, there was instruction to set ESP to Sport. New manuals have instruction to put ESP to OFF. I tried launch control with sport and off multiple times, and I got 4.3 seconds regardless. Only newer RS models and R8 have a message that says "launch control programm activated" so this message doesn't exist on S5 B9 software. So this was a proper launch control and you should inform yourself a bit more before claiming something like this.

@@TNT_Creations the lock-up clutch usually gets closed only in 2nd or 3rd gear (typically for Audi), even in normal conditions. But even if it's fully open, the torque converter transfers the engine torque hydraulically, so opening up the powertrain only works if you open up also one clutch inside the transmission. All I'm saying is that you have no evidence here whether this was a proper launch control, or just a manual execution of that. In cars with DCT transmission, you get the powetrain open, and the engine speed in controlled state somewhere around 3-4000 RPM, and when you step off the brake, it slams the clutch very aggressively. And the difference is clear: here the car also wants to move when you are in standstill (you are transferring full-load torque at 3000 RPM) , but with proper launch control active, it opens the powertrain, so you don't actually need to hold the car with the brakes, therefore the brake pedal works more of like a switch, and full brake power is not necessarry. I tried also in a few VW-group vehicles. I think this is not a basic feature in S-models. You can execute it exactly the same way as with launch control installed, it basically doesn't make too much difference with a torque converter transmission, but without receiving any feedback from the instrument cluster that launch control has been actually activated, then I think this is at least highly questionable whether it was a proper "launch control" start, or just a start in sport mode from standstill.

@@imrebese5502 I get that DCT transmission is mechanically different and it works on another principle. Another thing, DSG transmission that has as you call it "real launch control" has a limit of possible launch controls (as I remember around 200) because of greater gearbox wear). On the other side torque converter has no limit on number of launch controls. In my oppinion that is a great advantage. Again, in Audi S5 B9 owners manual, there is a part called "Launch control function" with description of how to engage it. And its written that you pay attention on boost indicator, but there is no launch contorl engaged message simply because that message is not installed in software of B9 models. Starting from standstill by just smashing accelerator pedal will not give you time as fast as with following steps from manual. I tried it multiple times.

Again, not true. ECS OFF on damp/wet road will make you lose traction and it takes more time 0-100kmh. So dry road- ECS off - maybe... But wet road ECS sport - beats it every time. Rly depends on road condition.
