Excellent in depth review! I agree with you that analogue controls don't need to be switched to digital. I think the car is a huge improvement on the previous model. I still don't like the placement of the air vents and I'm still not keen on touch screens in cars though.

I am 100% with you on this lets pay another 1000 euro if you want a 2" bigger screen rubbish. Just make one screen which fills the space and be done with it. Same with the Merc A class. It looks terrible with two tiny 7" screens but come on 3000 euro more for bigger screens.

Volvo gives you same digital cockpit screen and the same sized center screen in all its XC range. Why ruin the design by selling a base car with a tiny screen surrounded by black plastic.

Another superb review, Thomas. Excellent commentary/analysis to match the lovely scenery of northern Italy. As an Audi fan/owner I'm not too sure about all the cockpit digitisation as a long term ownership proposition and very much like the familiar MMI system.

I agree about the steering wheel being a little too big. I have an A5 and its Sline steering wheel is smaller and more comfortable. The Q3 is surprisingly lovely to drive tho.

sure it will have plenty of more colours. Didnt hear about ventilated seats, if you have fabric surface however, you wont need them

Agree about silly and very expensive Audi extras policy, but a great marketing money-making feature for the manufacturer! Q3 is expensive and will sell well to the rich! Like the last one. If in this market, for the same price, do you pick a sparse, low-spec Q3, or a fully-loaded Tiguan SEL! Was My Arbor Hotel, S Andrea any good!

thanks Gordon! That hotel was brand new and frankly it was one of the best hotels I've ever been. Amazing food quality, wood all over the place but used in a great manner, combined with modern glass, but without being too posh.

great review. Too bad you did not test the driving assistant, especially adaptative cruise control and "stay in line" feature. What about the DAB and hifi? What about commands by voice, apparently much much better than they were a few years ago? Is it similar to what is available in the new Class A from Mercedes? (also, are you sure it's worth converting into mpg and miles per hour? You have a lot of viewers from the US?

Hi Thomas, I've noticed in (some) of your reviews when you get to the infotainment system you mention the "CPU Unit". The Unit term is redundant in this case as the abbreviation stands for Central Processing *Unit* anyway. Some alternatives you could use are "Powerful processor" or "Good CPU", which would essentially mean the same thing to the casual viewer. Just a note, to an awesome review as always :)

Most likely one of my most favourite review from you. I really enjoyed your excellent driving skills, was a bit worried kids might come out onto the road chasing a ball etc as the houses are right up to the road!!! I guess that’s Italy for you. Two things I did not like is the total loss of instruments, no matter how quick the processing speed quality analog instruments just have the edge-having said that having Sat Nav across the instrument panel and all the variations in the virtual cockpit is amazing, but really just an invention for those who like to entertain the Audi philosophy. The other thing is not having the rear seats fold flat with the rear as it does with my Q7. Overall the design is first class. I wish you could have test driven the diesel, as I’m a diesel die freak, hence why I purchased the 4.2 TDi which is the best selection when towing over 2 ton caravans IMO. Some may disagree saying the higher output V6 TDi is sufficient. All a personal preference, I feel the V8 does not have to work as hard, which I like due to engine longevity. What a shame the lower air intakes from the bumper bar is blocked off, could not the screened air be used to blast the rotors to keep cooler and hopefully keep the brake dust from building up as much?

Thomas, I would like to suggest that you include a comment on the spare wheel (or not) options for all the cars that you review. This is very important to some people, more so in some countries than others. Personally I want to know what happens when I get a flat tyre, and this can be an important part of the purchasing decision. Does the car have a full spare option, skinny spare or no spare etc. Based on this review it appears that it is supposed to be an SUV but it has no spare at all. Is there an option for a spare if a different sound system is selected?

Main difference is if u have adaptive suspension or not, then the drive select changes the suspension. If there is no adaptive suspension, it just changes the throttle input basically
