I was in Kristiansand a few days ago but got stuck in traffic both ways near Porsgrunn for 25 min both direction due to holiday traffic. MEB platform and the VAG conglomerate is the safest bet for those who are in market for an EV in that price range.

Kris, Thank you testing this car, Your videos have helped remove the anxieties of owning an BEV. I've now made the jump from ICE to BEV and ordered a Q4 40 Sportback

Very good result Kris. Given these figures, I would bet that the Q4 Sportback, with a 0.26 drag coefficient instead of 0.28 in the one you tested, would beat the Mach-E should all other factors be identical. Go get one once it shall become available! And, of course, you should also compare the 50 Quattro versions (normal and Sportback) with the likes of the ID4 GTX and Mach-E LR AWD. Lots of work ahead :)

Thanks for this great test. Did this car have the optional heat pump? And when you do these tests, do you turn off things like AC to optimise the range? Finally, do you think Audi's drive select (where you can select eco and range modes) are worth it?

You'd likely get noticeably better results if driving in D mode on motorways. B mode disables coasting which is far more efficient than recoup. You get back only about 50% of energy when recuperating. It's good for the city drive but not that efficient for long trips.

I still think I like the Polestar 2 more in terms of its design and performance, but this Q4 e-tron is such a great overall package. I wonder how well the 50 e-tron quattro version will stack up.

Hi Kris, great information thank you. On the verge of buying a id4 GTX but so nervous about lack of charging facilities in south Germany (Lake Konstanz). You seem much more facilities where you are. I don’t want to make the right decision for the environment and then be stuck with a bad decision. Any suggestions?

Wow, we are already at peak time for that stretch. Now the external factors are the ones that decide which car has the lowest time. External factors are : weather, traffic and free chargers. 😄

Q4 looks great in that purple colour they did promo pics and video in; like interior too. Like Enyaq, it’s much better than ID4! Just curious on pricing structure for UK? Another great review Kris!

I was expecting results for Audit Q4 to be more in line with ID4....Same battery, probably similar weight...Looking at temperature differential between two runs...may be that explains lower consumption for Q4. Thoughts?

Good result for an all wheel drive machine. Up there with the RWDs and more practicality than the mach-e. If I was in the market right now it'd be tough but the Q4 would edge it over the ID4 GTX. Im stuck with my fat etron for now which also yells at me for not being in the middle of the lane!

This is the 40 E-Tron, which is RWD 😊 But I think the 50 Quattro would almost be as efficient 👌 Gonna do this run soon with my E-Tron to see how it does in summer

Do people normally drive 95-100kph in Norway on the highway? If you did that in Canada you'd feel like a roadblock for all of the people doing 125-135kph. LOL. Thanks for the test Kris! Don't be late picking up your little girl at the daycare!! ;)

Yeah his speed is too slow. Suspicious that he doesn't go faster. I'm guessing just going up to 120 kmh would skyrocketed the average consumption up to 25.

@@HelloMyFriend_ I understand keeping a consistent speed amongst all of the cars for comparison but my consumption & range won't be reflected in these tests. Bjorn does the same thing.

Nothing to be suspicious about. A little Google search reveals that you can retire your tin foil hats - there is no EV conspiracy. Just a law abiding citizen.. ec.europa.eu/transport/road_safety/going_abroad/norway/speed_limits_en.htm

All my test are done at 10KPH above the speed limit according to the speedometer, because in my experience this is how people drive 😊 So in 110-zone, we do 120KPH 👌

Very high is my guess. Around 34 kw pr 100 km. Just guessing.

I have two electric car, both more efficient than this audi Q4 but i'm pretty confident that with 20° outside temperaure at 140 km/h woul have something like 240 wh/km

Just want to ask you a thing about Wind an Fossilcars i wonder if youi know ho much it will Effect consuption on a ICE. Nevere heard of anyone using wind as an issue for Fossils but for sure consumption will be afected by wind to.

The “problem” with EVs is that they are so efficient. If you use about 90% of the energy 1-2 kW due to AC or wind or rain or rough tarmac are more noticeable than if you throw away +50% of the energy you use. But fossil cars are affected by the same laws of physics, and if you drive at 120kph and you have a front wind of 30kph, the drag of the car will be equivalent of the car driving at 150kph with no wind, no mater what kind of drive unit it uses.

They are allmost the same. Mach-e, ID4, Q4, Enyaq. But the mach-e has a bigger battery but weighs more. All are RWD but the MEB platform has heatpump, iam not sure the mach-e has tho

It depends. You want sporty ? then Mach E. If you want better ride quality and practical family car: ID 4 and Enyaq. If you want stylish: Q4, if you are Tesla fanboys: Model Y.

@@erathol No, in Austria, I ordered a month ago! I needed a week to convince my wife to spend extra money against Enyaq iv80 and this week later ordering set me back a month on delivery date! The good thing was that Enyaq would have been delivered not before April 2022!

if that charger delivered the max charging speed of 125kw instead of 108kw, the Q4 would have probably finished ahead of the MachE. But yeah, nothing is perfect with these real world tests, it's good enough that the weather was so nice.

If you get about 20% more charging speed for the fist 10 minutes you would save about 2 minutes. Not enough to beat the Mustang.

Think the ID3 could beat both these cars, you did that one in lower temp. Same as etron GT.and tm3 LR. Think the ID4 could do better to., When its the same car.
