@@cardscommanders9316 Audi used also the TDI engine (I think a V10) in their LMP1 cars. They were one of the fastest cars on track and also the most efficient. Crazy using a diesel for a high end racing car, but it worked.

@@hugius1269 No but the torque is very good, so you can feel lots of pull. This has 500 HP and 737 lb-ft of torque, which is absolutely insane for a car like this. It's common with diesel engines to have lots of torque, and I believe it's because of the compression and pressure when the diesel fuel is being burned. But that torque is more low-end than high-end.

It's not like it would break the gearbox if it had 1100nm... It could easily handle 1250nm. There is a margin to make sure that it would have a long lifetime.

@@xcofcd A but there is.... with modern ecu programming you have the possibility to manage and limit the torqueband while still getting quite a lot more horsepower out of it. Also things like boost by gear can make a transmission take a lot more torque and hp than what it is rated for. Mate of mine is running a +800hp audi ttrs on the stock trans .... :)

Can you blame them? from what I recall reading, 80% of new cars are financed for an average of 3 years. The younger generation want a new car every 3 years so they can look cool to their friends. The cars are therefore designed to be replaced after 3 years these days, VW decided it would save them money and also make more profit if they all shared platforms. MQB and MLB platform vehicles pretty much share everything except from the styling.

There is actually no point in doing that other than coolfactor. Performance wise, it would just add too much weight, and all that torque at low rpm would make the traction control have a serious workout.... and when turned of... it would just roast all 4 tires... Performancecars need high revving free flowing engines :) Still... would be cool though, v10tdi power R8 :p

Honestly 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds is pretty good for a car of this size and weight~ That V12 diesel engine does its thing well. That amazingly high torque level really gives it that pull.

This was on Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson years ago. He called it a fat Rino on a track 😂. Also it did a Stig lap in over 1.30 minutes so it wasn't that fast. Expensive too. This engine sounds great though and it would probably be good if they made a luxury HGV with a V12 Diesel.

If you strip down the engine from all the blockage such as EGR and other emission regulation shit and put hybrid turbos with free flowing exhaust system and better intake system it will crush so many cars. It literally pulls like a train.

@@jojajo2707 Yes, and remember that in the video is accelerating hard and going at high speed. If you cruise in that car at 130kph for example during hours, it could do maybe 9 liters. Just like a mazda rx-8 with half the power and about 1400kg.

Q7 v12 has to be upwards of 2700kg, my cayenne turbo which has a shorter wheelbase and a gas engine with 4 cylinders less is already 2600kg. These older platform q7 are heavier than new ones, since they were built on a strong platform, able to do pretty good offroading with locking diffs and a low range gearbox.

Well, with the 3.0TDI you can do 230km/h GPS. With a stage 1 or stage 2 tune it will probably go to 250km/h gps. This does 263km/h gps. So not really worth the extra weight unless you're towing heavy stuff...

The q7 has the v12 but the older Audi A8 had the w12. VW phaeton had it as well as the Touareg. Some of the older passats had a cool w8 but due to pops sales of that configuration they discontinued it and replaced it with the 3.6 engine.
