Audi Q7 vs Range Rover Sport: Something old, something new...

RR looks great and will go off road BUT that’s where it starts to go wrong unfortunately,as soon as warranty is gone so should the owner, Audi is better put together for a longer ownership

A bit like comparing apples and oranges... petrol vs diesel, top spec vs basic, 5 seats vs 7, pretty red vs dull grey (I thought I should sneak that in).

Given that the Audi is an 8 year old design, I think it does really well and is still the more practical of the two. Obviously it is starting to fall behind in other areas compared to the box fresh RR Sport as expected but still not very equitable to compare a bottom of the range Q7 to a top of the range Sport. I completely agree with you on the lag issue though, by the time that my Q7 starts to respond, it should be doing around 30mph, very unnerving when pulling out of a junction. Pleased to see you conclude that Diesel is still the better choice for this type of car. Diesel and Petrol are being banned at the same time so people should not be bullied into sub 20mpg Petrol versions.

For me the Range Rover beats the Audi in pretty much every area. It's way better to look at inside and out and sounds good as well in this V8 version. I don't know if people in the market for this type of vehicle care about fuel consumption, but I would take the V8 for sure as prob the real world difference once you have offset high diesel fuel costs is not that significant. Far better off worrying about depreciation if running costs bug you. For sure RRs have a bad rep for reliability and a lot of money has been invested in new plant to improve it for these new gen cars. Only time will tell if it's worked but I hope so, its a great looking machine.

Some great views of these two Rebecca. One small omission is the cubby space as you never know when you where to best place that banana but not forget where it is. Previous viewers of the channel should know where I'm going here. If it was my money and could afford to change the car before the warranty ran out I'd go for the RR, otherwise I'd go for the Q7. I'd also be a tad concerned on the depreciation if I was a private buyer, an ex demo or used may make more financial sense subject to availability.

I don’t like the grill of the newer Q7 or the touchscreens and huge area of black plastic in front of the passenger so I bought a 2018 50 tdi Vorsprung The Vorsprung pack solved the premium feel issue as well - leather everywhere, nearly every option etc. It’s inert to drive but as a long distance, luxurious family car it’s great. Returns 40-45mpg on a motorway run as well, with an all time best of 51mpg on a long stretch of lower speed limit motorway.

I have just purchased (ordered it back in August last year) a Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe. It replaces my Range Rover Sport SDV8 HSE Dynamic 2017. I am still getting used to it. I still have The Sport and to be honest, I think it might be the better vehicle. I test drove an Audi Q8 before I made my decision to buy the Cayenne. It was very disappointing. The all black Cayenne is a great looking vehicle but so is the All Black RR Sport. I always buy new. You know what you are getting.

What do you pay for such a diesel in the UK and for a petrol..In Holland they have decided to make driving a diesel only possible for people that can afford paying 2400 to 3000 euro each year, for a RR petrol 1200 a year.... ANYONE?

Audi Q7 better Suv than Range Rover, not just on cost. Audi has better build quality and will keep going, not like the Range Rover. Shame JLR hasn't improved the reliability after all these years. 😮

I would go for the Audi Q7. Range Rovers have been stolen more times in recent times with their shambolic security and we have fools on here that would still part away with their money to buy one and then not ghost their cars and then complain and cry when robbers steal it off their driveway. Also due to the large difference in the price of petrol/gas. The turbo diesel saloon/hatchback I drove would get 50+ mpg. It all helps when our government puts a massive tax on the fuel. Hence why it is so expensive. Best wishes. :)

Fuel prices are more than double in the UK than the USA. A turbo diesel will do 50mpg, a V8 about 20mpg as described in the video.
