Really glad you did this video comparison.. I just took out a 3 year lease on the previous model prior to this facelift and was wondering if I should have waited. Other than the extended range, the pre-facelift seems to still be a good option due to that amazing charge curve.

We took our new Q8 etron on a 1000 mile roadtrip. After driving just about 500 miles @ mostly 80mph on 21" wheels we L2 charged overnight to 100% and saw 450 miles on the GOM. When driving locally we see about 270 miles of range. So the more efficient motors show up at lower speeds where the regen is probably more effective too. This is our 3rd etron and we really like it.

Just curious, as a q8 e-tron/e tron owner, would you consider the smaller Q6 e-tron on the new PPE platform when it comes later this year? In the Q6 range, charging speeds and tech will be better, but ride comfort and quietness will probably be worse. And the Q6 e-tron's dimensions will obviously be smaller

@@nickbien It's a little early to say if Q6 would be a more desirable vehicle for us. Considerably more highway range mght be a factor to consider moving to the Q6. Unfortunately, many chargers coming on the scene are not very fast so super fast charging cars will not be able to take full advantage of that feature. Will see when it appears in showroom floors.

@@BillB33525 Thanks, I was just curious because to be honest, I don't know how audi will manage to sell many Q8 e-trons after the q6 e-tron comes out. One of my family members is in the market for a new midsize luxury suv, and I was really hoping the Q6 or Macan EV would be out by now, but they were both delayed 1-2 years. She's going with a Lexus NX 350h (as the Q5 is admittedly very outdated) And other EVs are not really appealing due to size (too big/small) and not enough range

@@nickbien just bought a Q8 E-Tron Launch Edition. Idk, the E-tron is kind of a one off sort of experimental vehicle all in one, built like a tank and drives like butter. Idk how the new platform stuff will be. Probably will be great but I just love how this car feels, its not too gimmicky. Personally, I don't think I'll go w/ the new stuff, I'll probably get Porsches version. Porsche K1 project.

thanks for doing the test on stock wheels. Bjorn did it on aftermarket wheels and I think those aftermarket wheels aren't as good for aerodynamics compared to stock wheels. So it's nice to see the efficiency with audis efficiency improvements. (bumpers, wheel spoilers and new wheel designs)

Many thanks for this test. It`s a really nice car. Great looks and very comfy! And the consumption seems to be better than in the old version. But it`s still massive, when compared to similar cars. My BMW iX50 would be somewhere below 23kw under similar conditions.

I have the pre facelift E-tron 55 SB. I can do 400km on a full charge with 21" factory wheels in summer. Winter however is a different story. It does up to 300 km range with stock 19" winter setup. Still a very good car even today, with 2017 technology.

Good Test! For cooling you must also consider that battery likes temperature arround 15°C so with 24°C- 27°C outside temperature you need a lot of energy cooling the battery. Tho i think result is on pair with the EQS SUV 450 4matic which runs on 10°C lower temperature. It could use the heate from the drive train to heat the interior. The E-tron had to cool interior and battery.

I test drive the Q8 e-Tron and it's on par with my old EV6 GT Line with range, beats the EV6 on charge speed, Audi charge curve is epic. Seen 280 REAL miles from the Q8 e-Tron with faster driving, 300+ is doable with slower driving speeds for sure. BTW.. Anyone who tells you their EV6 sees 300+ REAL miles on range in lying, I tracked my EV6 driving with GPS over 19 months, 300ish GOM miles really means 270ish miles range is real life (summer time) 250 in winter. My Older e-Tron 55 is seeing 230 miles in summer which is pretty good, winter probs sub 200. Remember, eTron is a big car!

Hi Kris, unfortunately there is no user preconditioning possibility for the Q8 battery...
@Orbit353
@Orbit353 Жыл бұрын
You can start battery preconditioning, although only through an OBD adapter and a corresponding app. The functionality is there in the thermal management control module, but it has not been exposed into the user interface of the car. For the test conditions here (+25 C outside + 2h drive), preconditioning would anyhow not have made much difference on the charge curve.

You say it's not too bad for consumption, but it's very, very bad. Moreover, you used it very carefully. Even so, the range for this vehicle is max 300km. I wish you showed how much it can charge because it doesn't charge more than 98kwa.

@@Hshshsjsjsjsh 106kph is not 120kph, those 14kph in difference will yield a big difference in consumption. Wind resistance increases squared, that means when the speed doubles the wind resistance quadruples. Wind resistance is the biggest factor when it comes to consumption. 120kph is 13% higher than 106kph is should increase the consumption by 26%. 21kWh/100kph x 1,26 = 26,5kWh/100kph. Sure… but 110% sure your average speed isn’t 75mph for those 2000 miles. It’s gonna be a heck lot lower. So not comparable, and 2.4 miles per kWh is still good and better than the pre facelift car. I owned a 2020 E-Tron 55 over 25k km and it don’t do as good as the the facelift model.

@@KrisRifa It's kind of funny you say that because at highway speeds of 70-75 miles per hour I actually get better consumption around 3.0 to 3.1. It's the around town driving that consumes a lot of energy, for some reason it seems there is something that cycles every time the car is turned on so if you don't drive very far your consumption is really bad. Plus I think if they mapped the throttle better to give more power down low then I think consumption could be improved because in order to accelerate at a good pace you need 25% or more on the power meter and with other cars I can accelerate at a nice pace at less than 25% power. This vehicle has more power than Audi is allowing the consumer to use. Cant get past how good this vehicle charges though, its a dream for road trips because it charges so fast.
@KrisRifa
@KrisRifa 9 ай бұрын
@@darinbrazil5496 3.1 miles per kWh is 20,0kWh per 100km. The Audi E-Tron just can't get close to that consumption at 75mph. It is just impossible. A KIA EV6 RWD will get 20,0kWh /100km. The E-Tron is larger, heavier, taller, less aerodynamic og awd, so that is just impossible. I have driven around 35t km in E-Tron since 2020, and most of that is documented on the channel, so don't mean to be rude - but that consumption at those speeds just isn't possible with that car. So there is som big flaw in your "testing" method, and I suspect that it is you're average speed being a whole lot lower.
@darinbrazil5496
@darinbrazil5496 9 ай бұрын
@@KrisRifa Kris, I know what the consumption rate is I have already done the math which is why I commented on your video. It's very interesting that you are making statements of certainty as you are. I have receipts in myaudi app so I know its possible and Audi knows its possible as well. Im trying to help you maybe get the word to Audi as you may have more influence then I do as to the things I have noticed that would help the consumption rate even more with some software updates. In Fact I drove 87 miles and my consumption rate was 3.0 miles per kilowatt and my average speed with traffic on our freeways was 53 miles per hour and the cruise which was set to 75 miles per hour. BTW "my testing" isn't testing its real world trips with my family in the vehicle. Im just trying to inform you and for some reason you are feeling like you need to be defensive.

@@darinbrazil5496 "in Fact I drove 87 miles and my consumption rate was 3.0 miles per kilowatt and my average speed with traffic on our freeways was 53 miles per hour" Dude, you just admitted that you drove 87 miles at 53mph and got 3.0 miles per kWh. So not 3.1kWh at 75mph, as I said. I rest my case. "Im just trying to inform you and for some reason you are feeling like you need to be defensiv" Not being defensive, just telling you what is fact, what is possbile, and what is impossible. I do this for living, I drive around 60-75 000 miles in electric cars every year, for the past three years. Most of what is documented here on the channel. So when it comes to claims about consumption, I know bullshit when I see it. And as I predicted, and as you yourself admitted, you don't do 3.1 miles per kWh at 75mph, but at 53 miles per kWh. Which in an astronomical difference in speed. Air resistance increases with a factor of four when speed is doubled, in an EV air resistance is about 90% of the consumption. The math is very simple and matches the actual results I and others get in our tests.
