If you told me that this is the new ICE Audi A6, I would believe it. In other words, did the (German) car makers finally understand that they shouldn't make electric cars deliberately ugly and distinct? A car is still a car no matter what engine it has.
@gileshalliwell3591Ай бұрын
But shouldn’t we try to move design forward at the same time? This is just another ho hum Audi and I’ve had six each got progressively duller until I stopped buying them!

@schoderfactoryАй бұрын
@@gileshalliwell3591 Whether you like the design of a specific car or not is up to you. And whether you buy a car you don't like is also up to you. My point is that many car makers designed new uglier EV cars while having in comparison more beautiful ICE cars. And now there seems to be a (positive) development that they stop to make this difference. I assume because they learn the hard way that they won't sell their ICE cars anymore and ALSO not their (deliberately) ugly EV models. Regarding specifically Audi: their cars have been looking like this since my childhood. Only "e-trons" suddenly had a very "complicated" design. Why? So, my point is: This new Audi A6 EV looks as boring and typically Audi as Audis always looked. It does not try to sell me "I'm an EV and therefore I'm drastically ugly because we don't have the new techology under control yet". It is only a new Audi, not more. And this is what I like, regardless whether I like the general Audi design or not.

For the records because so many people got it wrong like in this video. Your max recuperation dose not depend on the B or D mode when you driving a VAG vehicle. The only difference is how you control it. In the B mode your recuperation starts emidiate when you go of the gas. In the D mode you have to hit the breake for that. In both mode you can see in you drive screen a bar diagram which goes from full blue for gas to full green for full recuperation. You physical brakes hit only when your blue bar is fully used. The max recuperation of the car is the same.
@iainhunneybellКүн бұрын
So in other words, in D, foot off the pedal and free wheel, in B mode, effectively single pedal driving and take you foot off the pedal and you go in regen-based braking?
@hannes5610Күн бұрын
@@iainhunneybell basically yes but to use the full regen potential you need to hit the brakes. If you only take your foot of the gas in B mode you still have some recuperation capacity left. How much you can see in your drive display. If you put your foot on the brakes now, the car starts to increase the recuperation. Only if max recuperation ist reacht (green bar is filled) the car uses its physical brakes. Lots of People think B is mor efficient because they assume they only get recup in B. But that ist not the case. More likely the opposite. In most cases D is more efficient because you have better control when to use free wheel and when to use how much recuperation. An other mistake many car influencers do is to take a look in the datasheet and compare the value for max recuperation with the deceleration in B. Later one they blame the company for wrong value’s because an other car has a lower max recuperation value on paper but decelerate better in one Paddel driving.

This is actually a step up on battery tech, it’s a huge battery but weighs less that a battery of this size used to. 400 real world is not just achievable it’s expected and if you actually tried probably 420-430. The next gen Cars are coming in real world 400 plus and in fact the discussion isn’t how big and far but what actually is the cut off point. 600 miles are coming real world on some of the Chinese Cars next few years and you have to ask why would you need 600 miles unless your that one guy who lives in Australia and his local shop is 500 miles round trip and he doesn’t need food or the toilet. We can build a car with range that 98% will never need or use apart from once a year. 😂
@BBingo-v5iАй бұрын
It probably achieves at least 3.9 miles per KWh at mix mode driving. It has ~ 75.7kWh or 94.9kWh net battery capacity so the real world range is 295 to 370miles.

Camera rear mirrors....forget it. I nearly bought an etron 55 but wanted the launch version to get decent looking wheels (why do EVs have daft looking alloys normally). BUT, all Launch spec had these mirrors, and I hated them on a test drive. Then I test drove a Jag anyway, and it was so much better to drive than the etron. Felt like a proper sports car in comparison. The Jag isn't the latest battery tech/charging speeds/infotainment, but that cabin is a lovely place to sit, and HSE spec is great. And the Jag is a head turner and has class....doesn't make you look like a company car driver. I like this LCD glass roof on this Audi...the Jag glass roof is very dark, as it has no blind to pull or power across in the Summer. In fact it's so dark, you can't see much through it. Much preferred the glass roof in my E-class merc, which was much lighter tint with a power shade. The best combination is glass roof with a heavy blind, 'cos these roofs get red hot in the Summer. Range? I think they are wildly optimistic, and when they say 463 miles, really it's going to be under 300.

Always enjoyable to see a Tom review. Audi appear to be pushing forward with improvements but as Tom says the devil is in the details, 21" rims, air suspension etc will make a difference. That being said, using WLTP figures is always a bit of a joke and unrealistic most times. Having figures for summer, winter, urban and motorway would be great if they were based on real world. it will never happen as it is probably impossible to do this on a consistent basis that can be repeated. Two and half years old low miles 22k for £31k 😮 Battery pack degradation is proving to be so low people are doing 200k miles and have lost 7% range over six years and that’s old chemistry. And battery warrantees are what 8 years and 100k miles.

That really interesting on the battery degradation! I thought it would be waaay worse than that. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re only charging to 70% capacity, as I read that charging past 90% damages the cells.
