Lights like that are an absolute must here in the north. Greetings from a Finn.

Tesla model 3 matrix lights are not refined enough. I often get flashed by oncoming traffic, if I use the auto beam. Audi looks far better in comparison.

You should include a 2nd driver coming from the opposite direction to report how he/she/it was affected by your insanely good lights.

Not sure how it is in Norway. But on the Autobahn the rule is that high beams are not allowed to be used when the central divider does allow light to go through and you potentially blind other road users. And it's generally considered to be extremely bad manners and potentially illegal and unsafe to use high beams on any dual carriageway. It is meant for country roads were sharp bends, animals crossing etc. are a real possibility. Autobahn for example you could probably run on daytime running lights and just let the reflective posts, reflective road markings and the tail lights of other cars guide you.

I´ve seen a video just today where they tested the IQ Lights of a VW with highbeams on while driving on the Autobahn. Earned quite a shitstorm in the comments.

I tend to disagree. It's totally legal, just as on any other road, as long as you don't distract oncoming traffic.

If so, do the German manufacturers disable adaptive LED matrix driving lights in home country? So do e.g. Mercedes Multibeam and Digital lights only work abroad and not in Germany? You made quite an assumption regarding the risks on motorway and dual carriageway. The animals (moose, elk, bear, reindeer) are at least as dangerous at higher motorway speed as on slower country roads.

@@hannu6169 No, it's up to te driver to use high beam only when it is okay.
@hannu61692 ай бұрын
@@Timico1000thanks for your answer! It seems "OK" means different things in different environments. The only reason why I (or anyone else over here in Finland) have *ever* seen any reason to shut off the Multibeam function by moving to dipped beam is the extra LED-panel. The automatic main/dipped beam or matrix LED adaptation ("Multibeam", as Merc calls it) simply cannot handle main beam that has been extended by 100 - 200 meters beyond what the car had when it left the factory. It's different use case in the slippery nordic winter with long stopping distances and large part of the main road network lacking street lights. If the car did not come from the factory with S-Class Ultra range lights, then proper main beam needs to be retro-fitted as a car without it is hardly usable in winter time which starts for me today. I am glad I changed my car to winter tyres yesterday after seeing the weather forecast.

I wonder why car makers still insist on relying on detecting the headlights of oncoming cars on highways to block out the matrix segments rather than using the left road boundry marking as a reference to not shine past that since there really isn't any point in shining the highbeam into the oncoming lanes. This would prevent any potential blinding of oncoming cars if the system fails to detect their obstructed headlights, which is almost always the case with trucks or on very windy roads for example, while still providing the best possible visibilty. Country roads etc are a whole different story of course due to potential hazards like animals etc and those typically don't have middle dividers that obstruct headlights either so the system can work properly.
@Manu-P82 ай бұрын
Nice idea but I think is harder to detect the middle separates on twisty highways and also is required a very high number of elements in the matrix. Maybe when the matrix lights won’t be an optional on most of the cars.

Doesn't it show a laser icon on the dashboard when the laser part comes on? At least I've seen this in videos of the Q7/Q8 laser matrix lights.

I really do not understand why automakers switched to white LED. The color temperature is way too cold and harsh for the eye.

My Taycan has matrix headlights and I frequently get flashed by on coming trucks when on motor ways. The reason is that we now have higher central reservation crash barriers and the on coming trucks headlights are hidden behind these new barriers, so my car doesn’t realise that there is a vehicle on the other side of the road. The truck driver is sat high up so sees the full beam of my lights. I don’t get flashed by on coming cars as the driver is sat down below the hight of the barrier so is protected from my full beam.
