500hp is a mild rebuild of that engine compared to it's competition build. I'm sure I read in an old Road and Track that it put out something like 640+hp in competition form - of course at that performance level, they would likely need to rebuild it every 3 or 4 races. 500hp from a daily driver version of that little engine isn't too shabby though. Really nice, loved this one. I honestly feel the RS3 is the modern spiritual successor to the Quottro S2. Would love to see an RS3 sedan in either white or yellow with the same yellow white black decal scheme and an aero kit, it would look amazing. Also with the 3rd gear roll on, I feel Matt underestimated the short gearing in the group B rally car having no overdrive gears like the RS3 no doubt would have. RS3 in 3rd Quattro in 4th would of been more closely matched.

Yes, polyphonic sound, it's like a chord instead of a single note.

If that wasn't for sluggish gearbox, the Quattro would have obliterated the RS3. It's a beast, even more when you consider the fact that it is shaped like a brick.

Hi Mat, audi quattro s1 e2 with secuential gearbox and 770hp and modern wheels vs ferrari 750 hp, very hard duel😉😄. Walter Rohrl: 215 km/h in 250 meters...

I think the Quattro dint brake fast because the brakes were not up to operating temps. They aren't stock brakes. They are race brakes and don't work as well on the cold

that’s some serious performance on that RS3 ❤️

I'm so glad the old school Audi made the new one take a back seat. Respect your elders.Cars from that era were proper. Thanks for this Carwow and full respect to Steve driving the Group B Audi for getting it off the line and across the finish line 1st without the help of modern technology plus being a manual box makes it a real drivers car and a driver out of you........

I actually enjoyed that Matt. No ‘Warming up the tyres’ 🙄 in this one made things much better - just got on with it. 👍🏽 The turbo flutter on the Quattro between gear changes is fabulous, and the RS3 didn’t embarrass itself at all. Good video. 👏🏽

Fun fact: Walter Röhrl was once asked if he was afraid of driving this car. The answer was: " If someone says he has no fear, he must be hollow in the head..".

Of course it lost the braking test, they didn’t use brakes in Group B rally! They would stab the brakes once every 2hrs, and then use the brakes again after they loaded it back on the truck. That thing still has the same brake pads from 1985🤣

The sound of the dump valve from that S1 Quatro as he changes gears, no stability controls required, put your foot on the tin and hold tight. You can imagine back in 1985, that quattro up against an Sri cavalier putting out a full 110 horses. The Audi would have been like a rocket ship.

What I think is so amazing is that a ‘regular’ (well, semi-regular) car that you can buy from the showroom can come anywhere close to ‘the Quattro’. That is amazing advances in car engineering. Also the amazingly short wheelbase of ‘the real Quattro’ (all said as the owner of a current road-going Quattro)
