something i have found is brilliant for heat shielding is bostic aluminium tape, it is used in industrial applications to seal venting and duct work. but i have used it in the past in sticking it to a corroded DPF inlet flange so that the gasket could get a good seal and the adhesive has held for a year between putting it on and pulling the DPF for cleaning.

Most of the aluminium tape I've seen is conductive, not reflective. Do you know the bostic part number or model number? I could give that a shot.

A set of O2 sensor extension harnesses should be used in 4.0Ts with downpipes so that the harnesses can be run along the back of the heads rather than over the manifolds. Get in touch and we'll set you up with a pair 🤝

I donno why you are surprised if the velcro melted. It's heatproof only to 250*C. And you put it 4 inch from 1000*C as you said the hottest part of the engine. I'd be surprised if it didn't melt. This other new golden pipe you bought is good up to 450*C, hopefully will be enough.

Have you looked into ceramic coating the downpipes and turbo housing?

I looked into it, and when I saw the price I stopped looking :D

@@vPerformance how much more than you have already spent. Love the car by the way do you wanna swap for a battered mars bar and a can of iron brew 😅😅😅

Nice vid buddy, i know its a case of having the time and bits but something to think about If you have or know someone who has a FLIR camera get a heat gun or bar heater etc and hang the blanket etc and blast them and see what temperatures reach on the other side (that the adhesive is on) so you can see how much heat gets thru and also how it disperses across itself, esp with that dodgy looking weive in the tape,

Random question .what happened to the A6 C6? Has it been sold ? Some jump from the mighty 3.0tdi to an RS6 do they even remotely feel similar ?
@vPerformance4 жыл бұрын
They both felt comfortable, quiet and luxurious. Then I modified the exhausts to be savage. The RS6 feels about 3x as fast, and it's more comfortable on the air suspension.

Yeah I sold it about three years ago

the problem then becomes the bonnet lining and is the plastic cover being a heat shield for that.
@vPerformance4 жыл бұрын
The plastic cover has thick heat shielding underneath it. You can't run the car without it, because it sets the bonnet paint on fire :D

I just finished the video and it's getting very annoying by the end. You mentioned the velcro about 100 times. Please watch it and count it. Why did you do that ? You wanna make the video as long as you just can? You made a mistake but the velcro is fine. You forgot to read the product description. It's not the product's fault but yours. You buy a heat reflector item and you have no idea about it's capabilities, parameters. What do you think what is the temperature next to your turbo? Just guess. Probably you have no idea. And probably you expected that the velcro should stand 5000*C, or even more, no barriers. Go to the product page and read tech specs: "Withstands direct heat of up to 250 degrees C." Now guess the turbo temperature again. You should slow down a little bit. Always check the descriptions, you have time. Don't need to throw the velcro stuff on the table as a disgusting dead snake, because it was your fault, 100%, Actually it's an awesome performance from a plastic, it stands up to 250*C ! Unfortunately the turbo is far from that range.
