Audi S3 review - The Audi Experience Part 1!

After driving / reviewing Ford's for a while now, I thought I would broaden my horizons a little by trying some vehicles from the Audi brand, starting with the Audi S3 Saloon!

If you're going to start reviewing Audi's you should be a little less biased. I get what it's like to compare all other cars to your own, but think of your audiences instead of yourself. No one would cross shop an Audi S3 and a Focus RS. They're not in the same market, even if the S3 is the hatch configuration. It's a different price range, fulfills different needs. Your typical Audi owner probably have never stepped foot inside a Ford dealership. It's like someone comparing a Toyota Avalon to a Ford Focus RS and saying that the Focus RS is too small, too rough and too noisy.

Love everything about the car! Great video but I’m flabbergasted that Audi didn’t give you a S3 with all the extras - tech pack for instance. To showcase this car the optional sport seats is and are a must in this car.

I had an S3 sedan and sold it and replaced it with an RS3 sedan. Here's the thing. I live inner city and the S3 is a better daily for in and around city even long trips brilliant car. RS3 is a beast but not good for a daily . Im actually selling mine. Will buy an S3 in 2021 when next gen gets released.

I just bought an S3 to replace my DD and was planning on trading it in for a CPO RS3 in a few years after they start coming back off of lease. I'm curious why you don't think the RS3 is good for a daily and would prefer the S3?

No question the Audi S3 is a classy product. Wonderful interior. Refined drive and plenty quick. Newer, but similar to my 2011 VW Golf R with the DSG gearbox. Right now, I'm very much enjoying the the greater engagement that the Focus RS driving experience delivers.

You need to get in an RS3 Gary....totally different soundtrack with the 5 pot....been lucky enough to go in one 😁😁 Did you know my TTS at nearly 10 years old has the same launch control too!! 😎 I've started using the paddles on mine....and love it even more now.....you pretty much can't get a better auto than a DSG....I think they are fab!! Would love to see the TTS and TTRS if you get chance mate 😉😉 Great vid yet again and that's why you're the Best 😁😁👍👍

Nice review Gary, just the thing I'm after. I've got a 2 litre Audi TDi on contract at the moment. It finishes this time next year. Plan to replace it with a Focus RS (hence my subscription to your channel). However, an S3 or RS3 might turn my head...... Any thoughts on test driving an A45?

These 2.0L engines only come alive after 4 -6000 miles. Wonder what mileage your tester had? My 2018 S3 with 4500 miles is finally doing what I had hoped for. Mine is Ara Blue Crystal Effect! long name for a colour but it's stunning when you see one. I now have an APR Stage II tune with the downpipe, making about 387 hp and close to 400 Tq. on 93 Octane. Close to the stock RS3. Recently ran a 4.2 -0 to 100 km! measured on my $150 Dragy! Google Dragy. It measures all your acceleration and much more, on your cel phone. I am hoping to get to about 3.8 - 3.9 - 0 to 60 mph once i master the launching. Need APR tune on the DSG to help with that. The S3 is a great little car, my previous GTI also had this APR tune and took nearly 6000 miles to finally feel "loose"!

That's pretty slow for a stage 2 car. My stage one does 3.7 0-100kph. Stage 2 cars here in the UK are 400bhp and around 3.3 0-100kph.

Just a little gripe about Audi! I ordered the car and specified the "Sport Seat" option, $1400. When I got the car, it had a nice looking diamond stitch, but it deleted the "Power Seat"!! Now I have a seat that only adjusts manually, me 6'2" and my wife 5'6", makes these adjustments cumbersome. $1400 for just a diamond quilt! C'mon Audi. The fine print was difficult to read that you deleted the power option.

It's not only with Audi, possible all cars in the VAG line-up deletes the electric adjustments when you buy the sport seats, or better sport seats=no electric adjustments.

Good review mate. Having had Audi before my RS Focus (inc a 2010 S4) I totally agree with your review. I came very close to getting an S3 a couple of years back but opted for the larger A5 Sportback 230ps TFSi (saved £8000 on the RRP as it was a run-out model). I also needed more headroom than the S3 offers. The dealer experience at Ford both in sales and service just doesn't come close to Audi. The whole Audi ownership experience and quality and comfort is something I do miss so I may jump back into an S4/S5 if the right spec turns ups. I recommend you try the latest S4/S5 because the interior is a big step up from the 3 range and the engine is a peach.

Car Focused yes have a MG one running DS Ultima and also a modified Impreza that I've had for 16 years. The RS is great car on the twisties but doesn't blow me away in a straight line. Alot of the lower powered competition are lighter and seem to rev out more keenly than the RS. The RS is my daily and TBH its not that great as a daily. Pretty sure the S3 would make you think again if it were Revo'd, APR tuned or Bluefin.

I have an M140i and im a BMW fanboy but i do like the S3 its a nice little car. The one thing that really annoys me is the ipad thing they just stuck on the dash.

Nice video , interesting to hear different reviewers views etc on the S3 ..some of which are embarrassingly inaccurate and somewhat false! I own a 2017 sport back, and sadly the dealership has let down the experience of owning it (same franchise as Huntingdon) on top of multiple defects and warranty issues since day one and the car has only just turned over 14k.... All that aside the car is a force to be reckoned with, having owned Multiple 4wd performance cars I can totally agree on the refinement aspect and as a daily it’s perfect!

Nice car’s but I can’t understand why there car needs a new cam-belt 4/5 year or 40000 to 60000 miles comparison to ford 10 year or 125000 miles for a more expensive car I would expect better

The New S3 hatch back is quicker than the Ford RS mate.But they are different experiences of performance.My TTs is the same the power Is is there all thought the rev range.I use the stick to shift and sometimes the paddles.use the auto mode in traffic mate.The interiors in these Audi’s are first class mate.You think that’s quick try the S3 hatch,TTs and RS mate.Great video Good review 🏁😊🍻

Even my humble 2008 A3 TDI is very refined and without doubt the best car I've owned. I think you can understand why I'm tempted to pitch the S1 against the ST now mate? Another cracking review and is great to see you getting the opportunity to expand your channel mate. 👍

The secret is to fast forward to half way through the video if you want to hear about the car itself. Otherwise enjoy the never ending bitching about manual transmissions. So annoying. I came to listen about the S3, not about how you like shifting yourself. By the way the DSG shifts much quicker than you ever could manually
