This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Audi SQ5 luxury compact SUV. With a 3L turbocharged V6 engine matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission with 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, it’s pretty quick. It goes 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Premium fuel is required. The SQ5 offers a sporty design with a wide honeycomb front grille, high-gloss window trim, slim LED headlights and LED taillights with dynamic indicators, standard 21” wheels, 20” in the US, quad exhausts, a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate and illuminated door sills. A panoramic sunroof is available on the base model in the US for $1,450 USD and comes standard on the middle Premium Plus trim. You can add 21” wheels to the base trim for $1,000 USD. In Canada, Audi no longer offers a base model trim. Our test model has the black optics package for $800 CAD/$600 USD, it turns up the sportiness even more with a blacked-out grille, black window surrounds and roof rails. You can add red caliper brakes for $500 CAD and in the US, the red caliper brakes are available in the S Sport Package for $3,000 USD. Fuel economy, the SQ5 gets 12.5L/100km/18 MPG city and 9.7L/100km/24 MPG highway.

I just bought an Audi 2022 SQ5 Prestige, Black optics package, Sport exhaust tips, S Sport pack, Audi "s" beam, 21" wheels, nappa leather seats, it was expensive, compared to my 2021 Acura RDX that I traded, but this SQ5 is so fun to drive! I sold my 19 Shelby GT350 and the RDX was not giving me enough get up and go or bells and whistles, this Audi SQ5 delivers all of it! The only thing is the with the chip shortage, I did not get the wireless charging, but they reimbursed the $250.00. I love the red brake calipers, reminds me of my Shelby! :)

We just traded in our 2016 sq5 with 140k on it for the ‘22 sq5 sportback. Love it, great suv with heaps of tech in it. The ‘16 was rock solid reliable, not one hiccup. We traded it because we wanted something newer. I also own an ‘18 rs3 which I race routinely. Great reliability and understated performance coming from Audi products. Awesome review👍

It’s simply the best in class for everything, speed, luxury, comfort, style, technology, convenience, engineering. The list goes on and on. Only those who has truly owned and driven this will know. And sometimes it not simply the numbers on a paper, but the acceleration Audi provides is like riding on an light arrow shot by a bow.

How can you NOT fall in love with this couple.. Their Goofiness/bloopers are contagious!!!! At least on camera, they work SOOOOO well together... And this video/review is one of my favorites, as I've owned Audis for about 30 years or so. And the SQ5 has been a fan favorite for sometime. I wanted a Super Charged version bad!! But decided to wait, now that it's in its face lifted 2nd gen.. I may pull the trigger. Own an Audi now but, the styling of the SQ5 has me by the ..... Neck lol Okay, Back to Andrea and Zach.....

Bought an SQ5 recently, just prior to this review,. Agree with your observations completely. Only the centre console arrangement is a disappointment to me, however the pure driving pleasure more than makes up for it. Great review, you are a great team and I like the balance of perspectives.

Thank god someone else mentioned the lack of the MMI controller now and them just putting that cubby there. I hate that! I’ve had 4 Audis recently and will not get another until there’s a better option than just a touch screen. Traded them in for BMWs.

Idk what , or why. But i ended up loving audi. Coming from a Volkswagen. I checked out Mercedes, porsche, Toyota, jeep, you name it. And audi simply won me over. I bought a kia k5 and an audi q3. Will keep both until i can get my audi supercharged for 450 hp

I drove both sq5, m40i, and gv70, no benz yet. But I really really by far liked the bmw m40i. Genesis gv70 is the prettiest one! But felt underpowered for a 370hp. After driving m40i, I didn't liked sq5.

I test drove all the same cars (including AMG GLC 43) and went with the 22 X3 m40i. I thought the GV70 was best looking interior/exterior, but the BMW was most spacious, best drive, and the LCI brings some nice changes including a new 12" touchscreen.

To my surprise, the SQ5 didn't drive nearly as well as I thought it would. The chassis feels big and tall. Even comparing to the Mazda CX-5, besides of course, the SQ5 having a more powerful engine, but everything else, including the feel of build quality, choice of material in the cabin, driving dynamics etc. the Mazda feels quite a bit better. On paper, the SQ5 is slightly slimmer and shorter than the Porsche Macan, but it feels at least one size up. Where the Mazda CX-5 actually felt like a closer relative to the Macan than the SQ5 did, very surprising.

Currenly I'm driving mazda cx-5 turbo 2022 and was thinking to make a trade to sq5, but that was 2019 pre-facelift. After a test drive I decided it does worth its money.. not sure about 2021 model, maybe newer model feels better

Why don’t you like ventilated seats? This is one of my must haves on my next car. I have vented seats in my 2012 A7 and whole it probably isn’t the strongest, I do notice the difference when they aren’t on.

Nice review folks! I may be biased, but my ‘20 GLC 43 AMG is a better sport ute in every way. The GLC has a more attractive exterior and interior, and I know it’s more comfortable; I’ve had the SQ5 as a loaner when my Audi Q8 was in the shop. Btw, the GLC is more comfortable than my bigger Q8 55. Andrea, the Macan’s cargo is way too small and the Stelvio is an Alfa Romeo with all that entails, including suspect future support as Alfa sales crash. I also prefer the GLC’s infotainment; guys it’s not old, as it was just upgraded with Mercedes latest MBUX in 2020. The GLC’s stereo also sounds better than the Audi, and mine is the mid-range stereo. I much prefer the GLC’s dual touch screen and redundant tactile controls, not to mention the wonderful looking and feeling AMG steering wheel. It also happens to be the exact same steering wheel that’s on the most expensive AMG sports cars! The GLC 43 is VERY fast with its sporting twin turbo V6 and snappy shifting 9 speed auto (real metal paddle shifters), and it sounds amazing with the optional sports exhaust; much better sound than that sport exhaust on that SQ5. The air suspension, even with the upgraded 21” wheels, is actually comfortable (in comfort mode) which I was shocked about when I test drove. The wheel designs look better than the Audi’s also. The Audi’s ride is fine as well but my GLC seemed the better handler, plus has the more solid steering feel that Andrea alluded to. Don’t get me wrong, the SQ5 is a nice car, if a tad awkward looking from some angles. I’m both an Audi and Mercedes fan, but folks the nod goes to the GLC 43 here. Ya have to go test drive one. If you’re a sporty type, make sure it has the sport exhaust; it’ll make ya smile as it roars off!

I agree the look is clunky but if you’re really “driving” it’s so much better because you don’t need to take your eyes away from the road. The old style non-touchscreen was even better because you could control the MMI without focusing in anything but the road.

Every time I'm in traffic behind one of these Q5s I can't stop staring at the fake exhaust tips because it's such an awful look on an otherwise beautiful SUV. It's a hilarious look on a Toyota Corolla hatchback but please, not on a luxury German SUV.

Great car but damn luxury brands charge for everything and it never ends increasing the price when you want to buy. Sadly we can't compare a Tiguan R because we don't have it in North America so the only option in the VW family for real performance suv (at "low cost").

Great review and yes, it's one of the best all around vehicles out there. It took me a while to get on board with the whole crossover craze but I see the benefit in them especially where easy entry/exit is concerned and the way they're designed now they feel very car like on the road so no compromises.

Top notch review, thanks! Unfortunately, over here in Germany you can only get a diesel in your SQ5 (72k euro bone stock, need at least another 20k to spicce it up). I am pretty sure that you guys cannot imgaine that in North America... EU policies have totally ruined the engine portfolio for car enthusiasts in Europe :-( You are guys are blessed, enjoy them while you still can.

I filled up at Costco yesterday. Premium 80 cents per gallon more. My Toyota Solara (Lexus engine), and my Acura required premium gas. An absolute irritation. Gas prices will be rising steadily when enough electric charging sites are available. The govt will push gas prices up to speed the conversion. No more premium gas cars for me.

Hello! So I finally test drove a 2022 Macan S and I wasn’t impressed with the power delivery. The handling was nice, the body roll is so minimal compared to the sq5. But it was heavier to move from a full stop. The macan steering was heavier and you had to work it more than the sq5. I’m very conflicted. Do I go macan s for handling, or sq5 for power and all the creature comforts. Keep in mind the macan s has more power and hp but is only .1 second faster to 60 mph.

The seats have holes in the leather, which catch small particles of dirt etc, plus I never use the vented seats and it feels weird to me.
