Audi used to be crazy in the late 2000s

Who in their right minds would put a Lamborghini derived v10 engine in their full size sedan, which they detuned to make it more efficient, like there is anything efficient about a v10 engine.
And then they decided to strap two turbos to that engine and put it inside a sensible family estate, creating a monster with almost 600 horsepower, unheard of at that time.
And that isn't even the craziest part, right when the world was going into a financial crisis, Audi released a v12 diesel SUV with more than 1000 newton meters of torque, enough to pull a 30 ton airplane without breaking a sweat.

Yeah, but the issue is, that it will be cheaper to just get the Lambo instead. The Q7's V-12 is underperforming to prolong the life of the transmission, tires, exhaust, a the engine itself. While it will be cool to have 900 hp car with 1.5k newton meters or torque, it will be hard to sell a car with "3000 mile warranty".

I quickly picked up the nickname "Captain Whiplash," plus we drove that car on multiple long trips, sometimes returning home with so many souvenirs & other stuff that we bottomed out the suspension. 3 years later, when we returned Stateside, Dad sold the car to one of the US Marines at the embassy -- the car's 3rd owner, who we were told sold the still ready-to-roll, fully functional, "give it to me and I'll do it" little Audi 80 to its 4th owner a couple of years later. Nope. Lambo and audi V10 of that era is different engines. 1st v10 was created for gallardo and had displacement of 5.0 l, and it was proprietary for lambo and then r8. Later it was upgraded to 5.2. In same time with that update, audi createt their own v10 for s6/rs6 C6 and s8 D3, but based it on existing audi 4.2 v8, and thats why lambo and audi v10s had different bore spacing. Oil and cooling systems completely different, same as internals like crankshaft. Major parts between them are not interchangeable.

I had both S8 V10 and Q7 V12, both were stunning cars in their era. Extremely powerful cars with decent design, but when the gas pedal hit the floor things begin to happen.

Had the privilege of driving one of those S8 V10s. Got her up to 273kph 169mph and there wasn’t a hint of a rattle or lack of stability, just more wind noise.

Audi made some awesome shit back then. The RS6 v8 twin turbo was crazy. their 5 cylinders were crazy, their vr6s were crazy. Uhhh. well at least they brought back the 5 cylinders in the rs3/ttrs.

No, the V10 BITURBO was basically the Audi RS3/TT-RS 2.5L Turbo Inline 5 engine. But they just strapped two of those together. The 5.2 and the 5.0 Biturbo were completely different engine and had only the V10 badge in common.
