Hey Guys,
Did a quick swap of an exploded halfshaft/ CV Axle on a 2006 Audi B7 A4. This layout is very similar on all the VW & Audi chassis around these years.
Here is the complete walkthrough on the CV Axle swap out.

Good video but you didn’t have to unbolt the tie end rod or the pinch bolt. All is needed is to turn the wheel to the left and lock it in place then unbolt the six triple square bolts and the hub bolt pull the CV axle out. I just did both sides on my 2007 a4 2.0t Quattro - about 40 minutes each side.

Thanks for the question, we haven't had any issues with them. Since my daughter works close to home she has only put on about 10k miles since we did the repair. The good news is they have a lifetime guarantee so if they ever fail, they are covered for free. You can also order them from FCPEuro and also get the Lifetime Guarantee - www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-axle-assembly-gkn-8e0407451px Let us know how your Audi project goes, Cheers!

I have the same car but with the Tiptronic. Mine is doing the same thing however with the vehicle lifted the front wheels turn. The rears don’t at all. Before it quit it started having what I thought to be an axle noise. Additionally the vehicle can be rolled while in park. Any thoughts?
@BradleysGarage
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, thanks for the question. Are you able to drive the car now? What happens when you try to move forward in Drive? It sounds like there is an issue with one of the rear axles. With all 4 wheels off the ground (on 4 jack stands or a lift) it is normal for the front to turn freely but the rears are linked to the locking system for Park and therefore won't turn. Now with the weight of the car on the ground and if you are able to push it by hand in park , that tells me that there is an issue with one of the rear axles. This is not normal and should not be occurring. I would take a closer look at both rear axles to see if you can diagnose anything. It could be the spline or the internal guts like in this video. If you put the car in Neutral do the rear wheels spin freely? If both axles look fine and the rear wheels spin freely in neutral then there is a possibility that the Torsen center differential is messed up if the car is not moving forward under power. Let us know after to test a few things, Cheers!

@@BradleysGarage thank you for the reply! I’ll try having it in neutral tomorrow. The car gave out completely and won’t drive. Engine is fine, no codes. That being said there was a clunking noise from the passenger front side of the vehicle. I was going to my shop to inspect it and it juddered a bit and just had nothing after. At the shop I inspected the vehicle as mentioned in the air. Prop shaft moves but nothing from the rear wheels. When I go to place it in park it grinds as if it’s still in motion. I plan on pulling the pan and inspecting fluid but it’s very strange to me that it rolls in park as if it’s not engaging. I’ve checked the axles and the have intact boots and spin at the same rate as the wheels by hand. Any advice on how to check the front diff?

@@BradleysGarage Will Do! I’ve narrowed it down and you were right! The rear differential has failed completely and isn’t transferring motion from the prop shaft to the rear axles. Drained it and got a metal slushy:( will post updates!

Dude Im begging you to tell me What you used to get the halfshaft bolts off was it just that Milwaukee Im in the same situation and I cant get them with a ratchet because it just spins and spins around
@BradleysGarage
@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Jacob, sorry to hear you are having trouble with those axle bolts. The most important thing to remember is to rotate the shaft around until you have a direct straight shot at each bolt. If you are coming in at an angle you run the risk of stripping the head of the triple square bolt. Make sure you are using a XZN 10 (Triple Square) socket and not trying to use an allen/hex socket. The impact tool helps "break" that initial bond and can assist you in breaking it free if you have access to one. We have been very happy with our collection of Milwaukee Impact tools. You can also spray penetrating spray on all the bolts and let them soak for 30 minutes. Next up would be to apply heat from a propane torch in order to help expand the metal and get things hot. One or all of these should definitely help you get them out for sure. Please let us know how your project goes, we are confident you will get them undone. Cheers!

Do you think this noise is related to the drive shaft? Or similar issue? studio.kzbin.infooXonVzhj0KU/edit

@BradleysGarage Жыл бұрын
Hey Fernando, thanks for reaching out. I listened to the video clip a few times and to me it seems like it's transmission related. Since it varies with RPM and not speed it cannot be related to the the axles or wheel bearings. Are you running the A/C while making these videos? If it has been on during these tests, try it without and A/C on or fans running at all and let us know. Would it be possible to record another video by accelerating up to about 40 MPH and then just putting it in neutral and let it coast? I'm curious what sounds will be present with the engine at idle and the car just rolling to a stop. Feel free to shoot us a message over on our Instagram channel, since we can send pictures/videos much easier than here on YT. instagram.com/bradleygarage/ Cheers!
