Yes they've gotten quite expensive - when they work. Non-fucntioning ones can still be found for around $500 but they are very fiddly to repair.

Not exactly. That was a tremolo that used conductive liquid in a can to variably short the signal to ground. So it was strictly a volume modulation. This is an oil can delay being used as a precursor to the BBD chips in analogue chorus pedals. The only thing this has in common with the Dearmond is the use of a motor to do the modulating.
